S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2: Heart of Chernobyl

It's not so much a challenge as padding to make you have to hit up a trader over and over, because you can't carry much, but you also don't get much money from quests, and typically you end up using all of that money up on repairs from doing said quest.

I get what you're saying, but I do think the game severely needs some rebalance. Even GAMMA, which is a hardcore standalone mod pack of the previous games, is not as tedious as this, and that one is *designed* to be harder than the base games.

Exactly. I have not yet played this myself, but after watching videos and reading what people say, it is not quite like the original games. Yes there was a weight system and yes you sometimes could not carry everything but it was not impractical and not all that time consuming. Cost for repairs and whatnot was not that tedious, and worked quite well organically. I sometimes wonder if people don't recall how the originals played and have become so accustomed to modern open world time padding activities that they forgot it was based around tedium back then.

Try going 400 m with stamina losing every 30-50 meters then regen. Btw there is nothing happening during that time. Now I can do 400 m with one bottle of water and 1/4 the time. It is much much better this way. The whole tedium of the game is out whilst still retaining all the best bits. Also you go for 500 m out of your way to find stash. Guess what, FU can’t even take that bread. Now you click all and if you find a weapon or suit or something else it adds to the weight but you are not trying to inventory manage a med kit vs 5 rounds of ammo. Yeah people might enjoy that tedious nonsense but I don’t and I am glad there are mods to take this out.

Just to give a sense of what I am using and why.

Just back from FL last night. Logged on to play for a bit and checked out Rostok as the patch supposedly fixed the mem leak. Game still pigs a bit in the place but it did not crash. So maybe fixed? Looks like the trader there no longer accepts "red" condition items post patch? Brought a few red RPG launchers I'd been saving and I was unable to pawn them off.

Yup, the economy needs a rebalance for sure. Risk reward is embarrassingly out of balance. You use more resources than you get in return for completing quests and going after stashes than you get in return.

Farming to finance repairs, upgrades and ammo is not as fun as the devs seem to think.... re WOW gold.

Yeah, I don't think I've gotten a crash since the latest patch, but I also haven't played for a huge amount of time.

One oddity from last night's brief play. A few times I had rando bolts of lightning (no storm) ground out just a few feet from me. Are they using finger of god now to get you back to the main questline?

Wait until they actually hit you. I've had that happen at least twice in my 200+ hour playthrough. First time, I about jumped out of my chair.

That happens to me a lot when the storms happen. Not sure why.

Did not get hit... just struck right next to me twice.. seems odd..
I meant the ground all around you such as in the burnt forest, if not:
Such is life in the zone.

Damn, decisions are becoming real. Also btw, I made more progress in past 3-4 hours of playtime than I did in past 10 hours. So definitely use them mods guys. It makes for a so much better game. Especially the sprint and zero weight for consumables stuff. Soooo important.
Loving this now.

I'm gonna finish this one up this week. I've decided that waiting for a 5090 is probably not a good idea since Nvidia didn't care enough to make any. Oh well, 6 years with no improvement is something I'm used to from back in my console days. I plan to replay this with mods but I'm going to take a long break. The game is very slow paced and the world is huge. It gets tedious after a while but I think it will all fit together nicely if a crafting system similar to anomaly gets released and a much larger number of parts become available to make looting more interesting and gameplay more varied.

I would’ve loved a 5090 but the way things are going don’t think I will get one. So pushing this with 4090 and DLSS FG is the only way. Game becomes below 60 fps in later parts so had no choice but to go back to DLSS. Dope game. I don’t like the story but am enjoying it otherwise quite a lot. Also fuck the swamp and controllers. Hit SIRCAA and finally understood who blasted my home.

Yeah the story hasn't done much for me either. It's not bad but story has always taken a back seat to the open world gameplay in this series. I think this will be a really great sandbox for the modding community some day and hopefully some interesting projects will pop up once the mod tools are released. I'm interested to see what the devs are going to do patch wise and also DLC wise. It's still got some good stuff coming through official channels.

sub-60 FPS on a 4090 is crazy. Hopefully they can optimize the game further. I have a 5080 on order but I'm wondering how much that's really going to help with this one.

At 4K you need DLSS and FG if you want to run epic settings which is what I am running right now.

Mirrors my opinion on fuck the swamp. Worst sector in entire game (so far) IMHO. Everything about the swamp was just frustrating. I still cleared it.. but it was not what I would call fun mostly.

I've ignored the main story as it's pretty lame. If you just explore and clear the sectors as they come open you really end up in the same place as the main story and get to enjoy ALL of the content. I'm at 132 hours

Also not a big fan of the "it's always nighttime or storming" theme. Early on I tried using sleep to set out at daybreak.. but too may times you wake and it's dark & storming anyway. Got this great big detailed world of which you will see to the end of your flashlight beam (which I just keep on even during the day) which is about 30 feet around you, for the majority of your playtime in the game. No night vision was a bad choice by the devs. I'd prefer always green to this perpetual darkness shit.

Bah.. just got the dreaded Rostok crash... hopefully there is a save in there somewhere as I just lugged a buttload of stuff long distance to trade there.

I don’t clear anything mostly. I just do side quests if available or main quest. I was not having fun before the mods as I was always out of breath and encumbered. With mods I am out of breath but I can usually cover 150 m before drinking water. I think I am lugging around a lot of crap now simply because they haven’t given me a trader or storage place in past 3 hours. Without mods it could have easily been past 6-8 hours.

Swamp I was over with between 2-3 hours. It wasn’t hard but just annoying as I kept getting stuck in water. Also the spawning dogs pissed me off so I simply ran as even on a tower I was not able to find the dog that was OG. Ultimately I said fuck it and ran out of there. I know this wouldn’t be possible without the sprint mod but whatever. I prefer the game this way. It was 90% tedium and 10% fun. Now it is 90% fun. I am ok with that choice.

Game had a ton of potential to offer optionality to people playing it. But devs just get so set in the “how players should play the game” that they kill the fun for the masses. Fallout games seem just so much better than this game in terms of choices for players.

Still fun game and I will keep playing but I am not chasing any stashes etc. if I happen upon them good.

I always found the pricing sucked there... I did most my trading at malachite.
Don't have green rep in Malachite for some reason yet. i usually just dump and red items in Rostok.

I did go into my inventory before the Rostok crash.. was definitely a trigger b4 the patch. Looks like its still an issue. But seems ok if you stay out of inventory.

Interestingly, I never crashed in Stalker 2 in 90+ hours of play. However, after about 2 hours solid of gaming, the game would get choppy AF and I would have to restart it. Pretty sure it had a memory leak because when that happened, all 32GB of RAM was maxed out.

I haven't had any issues playing stalker whether for 2 hours or 4 (think max I played in one go). But I think I am about only half way through the game? I am at SIRCAA doing some wish granter nonsense.

It's so weird, sometimes I open this game and get horrible ghosting, and sometimes it's perfectly fine. I don't know what is causing it.

Don't think the crashes are related to gameplay hours... seem to be connected to certain areas and anomaly types. As an example.. if I bump into one of these hovering bubbles anywhere in the game my screen goes complete blue and some odd coordinates appear at the top of the screen. 3 finger salute and a restart is the only way to get out of it.

Rostok crashed a few times yesterday... I'd say if ur there just stay out of your inventory. Seems to be a connection still. I was able to sell red weapons to the trader there... apparently he just does not take red RPG launchers. I have 3 in my stash.. guess I'll just dump them.

Ran into a bug and cannot complete a side mission "In the name of science" that would have gotten me a gauss gun.. bummed.

One thing I have learned to do is loot as you go on all the quests including the main quest line. The NPC's will whine about your pace sometimes, but once you interact with them to progress the loot often vanishes.

I had the same issues with that type of anomaly, best to avoid it if at all possible if it's causing the blue screen. We weren't the only ones either.

Seriously, what is this crazy ghosting and oversaturation? It's bonkers, I can't figure out what's doing it.

Finished the mutant tracking device quest. I took a new RPG with 8 rockets to take on the giant and I killed him with the last rocket. Those things absorb way to much damage. I'm in Yantar, looking forward to hitting Pripyat for the first time. I'm trying to finish this up for now so I can move on to another game but I just can't help myself and keep getting sidetracked by stash locations on the world map.

That quest bugged out on me both times, there’s a map marker that leads me to a snork on the ground by some broken down cars, I grab the tracker but the quest marker stays there and it never progresses. Returning later the snork is gone but the marker stays.

No, it looks like that with DLSS and FG completely off. Not sure why some areas have this massive ghosting.
huh. drivers are up to date? tried flipping hdr on/off, if it has it? ive had it do some weird stuff...
