S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2: Heart of Chernobyl

Like some others have said, after downloading the latest patch (hotfix), the game crashes as it's going through the shader exercise. Never had that problem before. Game for me is tanked until this gets fixed in another hot fix/patch. :hungover:
Kill both running tasks, and restart until it makes it all the way through.

It's a roll of the dice, but it'll eventually make it through. Once you're in, you're good until next restart.

Just don't buy into any of the snake oil being passed around.🙄 Agreed, ultimately it needs a patch.

Haven't completed the game yet, so I can't comment on the story yet, but Cohh's thoughts line up with mine. From all the trailers, I thought GSC were going with a Metro-style game, so I came in with low expectations. Then GSC ended up surprising us with an almost faithful reimagining of the original Stalker games. I couldn't be happier how Stalker 2 turned out.

I can't wait until modders make the core gameplay more intricate and amp up the survival aspects a la Misery or Anomaly. My only critique is I wish it was a bit more hardcore. I find myself save scumming a bit too much. Anyway, a niche game for the masses. I'm surprised it's sold so well.

Yeah, it's happened to me a couple times. Once it crashed, another time it just locked up.

Yup, this worked! Thx, and agreed a roll of the dice. Game running a little better, but overall, still planning/budgeting for new PC. This one's had its day in the sun.

  • Fixed an issue when Richter could disappear from the Enerhetyk Palace of Culture during the The Road to the Foundation mission.
  • Added temporary solution to avoid crash on shader compilation by skipping shaders warm up.
  • Fixed a few ACCESS VIOLATION ERROR crashes.
  • Fixed an issue when invert axis options could not be saved after restarting the game.
  • Fixed an issue when controls could be lost after shooting, reloading and then examining the artifact.
And a small reminder, that we created a solution to back up user's save files. You can find the back-up saves here:

C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Stalker2\Saved\Backup
 
Whelp...now my save file won't load. I guess the latest patch broke some mods or something, not sure.

EDIT: Tried switching around some mods with no result. I just left it sit for a LONG time and eventually it did load, but I'm not sure why it's now taking like 3+ minutes to load a save game.

Can't believe they keep patching the game. If the game was that broken at launch I didn't notice it. If this was Sierra King Quest there would be zero patches.
 
After the update the shader compilation has been failing (i.e. halting) most of the time but thankfully they seemed to have changed it so after it fails the next time you run the game it skips it

Did they add a way to force shader compilation after that happens? I feel like people are going to start bitching about compilation stutter while playing the game now.
 
What a crock, it tells me its skipping compilation so I can play the game, but my button presses don't do anything once I hit OK on the popup and the screen says Press Any Key or Button to Continue. I like the game, but not all this stupid UE5 crap.

They added a way to skip it if it's taking too long, apparently.

I have to use a mod to bypass it because it takes forever to compile every single time I boot the game.

Its a STALKER 2 issue, not a UE5 issue. Plenty of UE5 games without stuttering or issues compiling shaders. Seems it be a while until they fix this game up. Already moved onto God of War Ragnarok, and will probably do Indiana Jones next and maybe even FF7 Rebirth or Black Myth before this. I think waiting until spring is best. Small bugs and even occasional crashes are one thing but game save issues? That is where I draw the line for bugs.

Maybe I'll have a new GPU by then to.

Skipping shader warmup is their idea of a workaround, oddly enough. They know exactly what it means by skipping, even if the customer is ignorant to the effects.

I don't like the idea of skipping the shader warmup, so I'm gonna just end task and keep retrying just like before.

The worst part of this workaround is you have to sit there and wait for it to give up. So, we're talking several minutes of watching no progress. They must have made a watchdog timer for the thread/process. I had to walk away fully knowing it wasn't going to progress for it to finally timeout. Yeah, clicking the message gets you in the game but with a BIG caveat.

I agree. I haven't had a single issue with the game yet. Another reason why I don't mod brand new games.

I just started playing again since I just got done with Indy. Last save was the 5th of this month and I have all the patches.
After a long fucking time of shader compilation, Game booted right up with no issues as usual. Been playing for around 2hrs and I'm back in the groove.

Man have I missed the zone!

This is usually me with every other game that has issues haha. Stalker 2 finally put me in the camp with issues :(
 
90% of my deaths, easily. (2nd playthrough on Stalker, minimal mods (clamber, slow 1st aid kits, reduced weapon / armor deterioration, reduced repair costs - 50%))

Currently exploring Cooling Towers and trying to get to the top of Red Fortress 'cause someone took a pot shot at me and I'm going to kill them all.

Not too bad of a climb once I found the access point. Couple of points where I fell through the roof due to meshes not meshing or something. In fact, about a foot to the left of this spot I fell through... still awesome game tho.

Fuck off Lt. Douglas. I had to cheat to get over to him to get his name, that part of the roof is inaccessible by normal means, but he was hitting me on the ground with his Mk 1 EMR, and killed me a couple times.

I made it past the garbage and the performance fell off a goddamn cliff. Not to mention that I encountered the shader compilation failing for the first time.
 
Is Douglas a Super Solider?
He was a Ward officer in an Exo suit. Two shots of 7.62x54R AP. Might be killable with single hs, as I missed the first HS and bodied him, then killed him with a hs)

I have definitely met some Monolith's in exo suits that didn't drop on the first hs. (Spoiler-y-ish warning if you haven't progressed the story far enough)
 
I just bit.. Downloading now. Hoping for some semi bug free gameplay.

Needed a new game badly. Hit lvl 500 in BF5 and just stopped. Replayed GTA5 through and I'm on my second pass of RDR2. Shelved Witchfire for a bit.. I'll get back to it.

Welp.. game won't launch...lol. Compile shaders comes up.. peggs the CPU at 100% then errors out. Bypass window comes up and when dismissed says to hit any key to continue.. no keys work. Guess I'll need to go back thru this thread to see if there is a work around.

Let us know if you have the word around. With the latest hot fix, won't work. Waiting til new year when another patch or hotfix is released.
 
Ok.. updated drivers and rebooted. I can get into the game now. Dont know if it was drivers or just the restart that did the trick. Once the initial compile shaders completes it's much faster on each restart.

Tweaking video settings now. Game really smacks the heck outta my 3080ti. Enabling FSR 3.1 seems to introduce input lag.. least it seems that way. Going to tweak settings until I can hold 60fps. Having to restart a lot.
 
Well I could not get the game to run across 3 screens and NOT feel laggy even at 60fps solid. Playing on a single screen now and it's much better.. just had my first game CTD.. oh well.. I'm sure there will be more patches incoming. But it def has the OG stalker feel.
 
What weapons are everyone using? I have a fully upgraded akm-74s w an extended (45) mag and I am finding it hard to deviate from that. I know it's an early game weapon but still seems to be doing the job and I am almost 30hours in. I have found just about every weapon you can I think. I tried the Vintar but the mag is just too small (10). I have one called sofmod that seem to be worth a lot of money but can't really see why as it does less damage but does have more penetration. My secondary is the cracker shotgun also upgraded. It's very effective vs the mutants especially the tough ones that disappear. Have two different sniper rifles and they are just sitting in my stash right now. Wondering if I am missing out.

Same here, rocking Valik Lummox's AKM-74S and the M860 Cracker, upgraded. Along with Skif's PTM w/ silencer for stealthing, a spare SVDM-2 in inventory, the PSZ-5V Guardian of Freedom suit, and Liquid Rock/Slug artifacts. Surely there are better setups but this is working nicely for me so far. Still in Garbage region as I'm slow walking the game. Not in any hurry, this is easily my GOTY.

  • Skiff's Pistol. Not the best performing sidearm, but good enough to get stealth headshots when upgraded and using armour-piercing rounds. Most importantly, repairs and ammo are very cheap compared to other weapons.
  • Saiga D-12. Extremely high damage like shotguns generally, but fires and reloads very fast. No more worrying about how much damage mutants can soak up once you have one of these.
  • Vintar. It isn't obviously the best weapon like it was in SoC, but it's still useful because of having good range and damage while still being stealthy.

Valik AK -> Clusterfuck -> whip

Boomstick -> mag fed cracker -> saiga

Pistol of your choosing, also remember you can put the mac 10 in your pistol slot

When the compile fails about 1/3 in I usually need to reboot the PC.. I can alt tab but it wont let me kill off the stalker process.

Took me over an hour last night to figure out the constant radiation position I was getting was from an artifact I retrieved from the magnetic cave. Went through a buttload of vodka and medkits b4 I figured it out. Sold it off. Just got the squishy ball artifact. Currently going low and slow doing the side quests in the lesser zone. Might trip out and see if I can get the Weird Water to increase my carry weight. I seem to get incumbered quite often. Trying different loadouts so I can carry more loot seeing which is better alt wep.. boomstick or viper. I'm storing excess at the traders place with the bed.. well see how effective that is once I move to a new central city.

Current wep loadout:

Valik Lummox's AKM-74S (upgraded quite a bit).
Boomstick
Viper 9mm SMG (monolith version/lighter?).
Skif's PTM w/ silencer.
 
Yeah, I'm still rocking Skif's pistol with the extended mag and silencer. I've got a few named weapons sitting in my magic locker and I almost always have a boomstick or cracker for dealing with mutants. And I have a random g36 because it has a built-in scope.

I was noodling with various settings last because I didn't really have the time to play.
I definitely seem to be CPU bound more than anything.
 
I have to throw out some love for... yes, this is real... "clusterfuck." You get it during a pretty cool sidequest. Take it for a spin. ;)

What is your setup just curious my z690 with DDR4 always crashed until my current Z790 I picked up early this year. Using 13700k with Hyperthreading disabled for cooler temps on air. 4080 RTX Also had a problem with a certain controller cord crashing games so I stuck with Xbox OEM cords. Not all USBC cords are the same.

Try Chivalry 2. It may surprise you. Play the 40 man servers though. Some bad lag on the 64 atm.
