S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2: Heart of Chernobyl

Seems to be in a bad state, similar to Cyberpunk 2077 at lunch.

and the usual suspects will jump on here and say how the game is totally playable, runs great and how all the reviews are wrong...one member in particular aka Mr Contrarian will jump at the chance to say how amazing it runs

im expecting me to have to lower it from 4k to get decent framerates and have bugs. Just like the first game ;). Now the real question is, is there really a day1 patch like they stated in the review video.

STALKER 2 Benchmarks & PC Performance Analysis

Graphics-wise, STALKER 2 looks amazing...for those wondering, the game has not been downgraded...however, it suffers from major pop-in issues...STALKER 2 uses Unreal Engine 5.1, which does not support Nanite for grass/vegetation...as such, you’ll see trees and grass popping in the distance...big buildings will also suddenly appear and disappear while exploring the environments

The big feature of STALKER 2 is its environments...all of them have been crafted with a lot of detail...the dynamic weather and TOD are also incredible and, thanks to Lumen, the game looks great in pretty much all weather conditions...the HDR implementation is also amazing here...

Yeah there's a 135GB patch for the PC.
I'll probably have to play @ 1440p w/ DLSS 3. As long as I'm not stuck at 1080p I'll be happy.
Heard that the HDR is really good too which is a bonus.

Complaints from reviews:

  • Performance is terrible, even with a 4090 using DLSS Performance
  • Awful texture pop-in.warping
  • Lighting is regularly busted
  • Reflections are glitchy
  • Light sources often don't work correctly (many areas that are clearly supposed to be properly lit are just black as if there's no light on)
  • NPCs and objects often glitch and just float in mid-air
  • UI elements flicker in and out for no apparent reason
  • NPCs will regularly stand on top of eachother during cutscenes
  • Weapon audio cuts out regularly and just straight up doesn't make any sound
  • Positional audio is completely borked and is completely inaccurate
  • Enemy AI is poor
  • When you complete an objective, it oftentimes won't update in the UI so you are unable to see that it's actually been completed
  • Map markers are regularly inaccurate (such as where stashes are, etc..), leading you to completely inaccurate locations
  • Stealth is totally busted; enemies can see you through walls

Any word on how it runs on AMD?
7900XTX here, but I wont get a chance to try for a few days.

I was going to buy day one and play on the 110 inch triple plasma setup, but unfortunately it's going to have to bake a little more in the oven before i get any playtime. :(

so hardware ray tracing will be added in a future patch?...another reason to wait...you can play it on Day 1 just to play and deal with the bugs and technical issues but as I always say...I prefer my first playthrough to be as good as possible as the 1st playthrough is always the best one where everything is new...replaying it for the 4th time after it's been patched doesn't hit the same way...it doesn't have to be perfect or bug free but like with Cyberpunk 2077- more optimized, bug fixes and additional features is worth waiting for

precisely why I'm waiting to play Black Myth: Wukong, I want the best experience.

so what happens when hardware ray tracing is added?...I thought Lumen and Nanite were a form of software ray tracing which is less performance intensive but is baked into the engine?...so what happens with Lumen and Nanite once you enable hardware RT?

Lol, I refrained from making any public speculation but I was more or less internally predicting this. The only question was how broken would it be at launch.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely do want the game to be everything that we were hoping for - but man some of the pre-launch videos were a little too on board the hype train for my tastes. The game was pretty ambitious to begin with, and combined with the development history I didn't see how there was any way that it could be all that people were hoping for...especially out of the gate. If the game had launched with minimal bugs, it would have been a miracle.

For those complaining about the difficulty, if they nerfed it for casuals the game would have lost a huge part of its appeal. Guess we'll see how this turns out once patches and mods roll in. Looking forward to buying eventually, but I'm certainly in no rush. I was worried that any and all criticisms of the game would be shrugged off by the fanbois so it's nice to see people being realistic about it so far.

I feel like RT is always an after thought. I think dev know its a massive performance hit and not worth the effort early on.

I don't mind if it's added in later via a post-release patch but the problem is that a game like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 seems to have a ton of technical issues at launch and those will take priority, meaning RT will keep getting pushed further and further back and end up being a tape job instead of the real RT...sort of like Atomic Heart promised to usher in a new era of RT but the game launched with no RT and it was only added in 1 year or so later and ended up being a huge disappointment

Watching it on CohhCarnage's stream on twitch. Seems pretty good, only big issue I've seen him complain about is the quick menu being buggy for weapon/item select. Definately not a walk in the park shooter game, so like the originals.

Another one for the can?
Downloading now. Thank you game pass. Probably will make me download 2 times before it will work.
Never played Stalker.

I've been waiting a long time for this... My EGPU setup was built just for this game. Waiting for the download to wrap up, then going to give it a go.

I look forward to being annihilated by those doggone dogs again. IYKYK.

I kinda forgot this released already, I never got any notification that my pre-order key was available...downloading now.

Let you know as soon as I can - I'm running it off an Ally X and a 7900XT EGPU. If it works well there, you should be golden.

I for one, can't believe a stalker game is filled with bugs. Also didn't these guys have to move their studio out of ukraine? I'm surprised this game got released at all. Hopefully this gets them enough funding to fix everything and release some expansions. It'll be great when I play it on a 6090 or RX 9800 XTX

I can't even play the game because most of the controls don't work and/or after reassigning them they are double assigned to something you can't even change....so I can't turn on the flashlight so I can't see anything, i can't get past the beginning part. my use key (KP_5) does stuff but also makes my character look up like some old school duke nukem 3d....same with KP_2 being walk backwards, makes the dude look down.

Melee key doesn't work.

No idea what else doesn't work because I can't get anywhere.

I really hate this stuff....and so many companies do this with setup controls. I am not right handed mouse user...and I don't use WASD.

Ruh Roh... now this is terrifying. I'm still waiting for the download to finish =/.

Yeah I asked about controller support last week game has partial controller support so I think you would needs a keyboard for some things.

can you use the arrow keys for movement?...that's one of my big pet peeves...certain action keys are hard coded and can't be changed?...I hate when KB/M controls are not fully customizable

I use the 4 arrow keys for other stuff and the keypad for movements, aiming, and weapon things. the keypad is my everything for FPS games.

I mean, why does a FPS game in 2024 have hard coded keyboard keys for looking up and down??? this isn't 1997.

the 4 seperate arrow keys can be rebound and they seemed to work without issues. The keypad arrows are a different story.

Just finished downloading S2 from Steam. At 158GB, this is by far the biggest game I've ever purchased. Mass Effect: Legendary's 110GB held that title since 2021. Won't get to play until the weekend, but I haven't been this psyched for a game since ME:L!!

And I thought I was the only backwards enough to use that control arrangement. This is not good.
