Just moved over to a 7900x and Asrock X670E Steel Legend. Had to put the newest bios on because of the boot times were just insane. Cut the temps down to 85c max and with curve optimizer I did not lose performance. Just have a 30 second POST at every boot. I guess I have to wait for the BIOS to mature. Overall, great system and really quick in Windows. I never thought I would think there was a difference in Windows vs my 5950x and 12700k, but there is and its not a placebo. Jayz 0 cents was right about something.

The even better surprise was I didn't even have to reinstall Windows and 0 problems. Just had to disable the intel drivers. I might not even do a clean install afterall.

I’ve spent a couple of days overclocking ram. It’s a blast with the long post times.

I was surprised about windows as well. I tried to use sysprep to get it ready, but it gave me an error, so I just went for it and it worked coming from a 9900k.

Sold my AMD 7700X system already. My ASRock motherboard with RTX 4090 did not work well,so I just bought another Intel system. AMD system was my most favoite CPU to date ever,RIP little buddy.

This BIOS still doesn't solve the 30 second POST but if you disable IGPU I think it solves a lot of issues.

Just a quick note. RTX 4090 was in the works for years. ASROCK should have had a fix. My RTX 3090 ran fine in the ASRock board.
I have no allegiance to any vendor.I have owned these CPUs in the last 3 years 2600x/3600x/3600xt/3800x/3800xt/5600x/5800x/7700x/10850k/12600k/12900k.

Just in the last 3 weeks 12600K/12900K/AMD 7700x and in three days 13900K or 13700K.

For weirdos like me who know something about PC gear and fix/repair PC's for fun,I want working gear. RTX 4090 is awesome and the AMD 7700X best CPU I ever owned but 4090 trumps the 7700x when it comes to what I care about PC Gaming.

Never had this happen before. I was using the EK ectotherm that came with my 360 aio. Idle was 42-43 and a few days later idle was in the 50s and just opening chrome shot temps up to the 60s.
With my 7950x tdp being so high I figured it wouldn't hurt to get better TIM, so I ordered some Kryonaut Extreme last week. I was really impressed. Idle dropped to 37-38.

Fast forward a 4 days later... Temps were back up into the 50s and any load like just opening chrome put it in the 60s. Benchmark scores fell too. Like from 38k+ in cinebench r23 to 30k.
I repasted last night and it looks like it pumped out or dried out already. I knew the stuff needed to be applied more often than normal TIM, but not this often.

I think either the mount isn't level (I turned the thumb screws until the they stopped on the springs, tightened them in an order like you would lug nuts on a wheel.) OR the IHS or water block is warped/bowed.

The cold plate has a couple of gouges in it from the edge of the cpu. Makes me think that the IHS is taller there. Either that or the cold plate isn't flat. Might have to lap them. I have lapped cheap core2 and I5 chips back in the day. Not really looking forward to lapping a $700 cpu.

Wow. Wonder if due to the higher temps we are approaching some of the problems that gaming laptop people have. CPUs regularly hit the 90s there and there is a movement to get rid of Conductonaut for laptop re-pasting.

Worth googling. I didn't see anything on their site about max sustained temps..

EDIT: I used Conductonaut Kryonaut with my 7950X but I am traveling today and tomorrow so I will make sure to pay close attention next time. After 15 days (tested this weekend) it was still performing well...

I saw that before I bought it. The time frames I saw were in months. As an enthusiast I don’t mind reapplying every 3-6 months. I didn’t expect to get days out of it.

I think there is more to it though. The ectotherm behaved the same way.

The gouges in the cold plate could be from loosening one side too much when removing it, but I don’t know. I’ve never seen that before.

I was hoping it was just an air bubble and that when I removed the block I could fiddle around with it with the hoses facing up since they are to the side when mounted, but it was pretty obvious that the core had dry spots with no coverage.

I used conductonaut on a delided 4570k back in the day. I lapped the IHS and sat it back on the cpu. Had to replace the TIM a few times over a couple of years. The little turd still ran hot though. I did pick up 100mhz. I put the conductonaut on the top of the IHS as well. It stained the copper of the Corsair AIO. H80 I think. The pump died in it last year in my sons computer. Wonder if it leached into the pump.

Did you microwave it?

LMAO I ordered another 7700X from best buy they frickin delivered nest temperature sensors. Unreal!! looks like someone pocketed themselves a 7700X at the warehouse.

Wow WTF man. I am sure they will be cool about it. I had something similar happen with the Samsung 980 Pro back when it launched. Got a 512GB drive with a 2TB sticker!!!

its annoying. I was going to downgrade from 7950x to 7700x. I don't even care anymore. Just need them to take this shit back and credit me. I posted a review with the picture. I almost though I got wrong package from a neighbor. I really don't know how someone grabs a nest thermostat vs a CPU. Unless it was a robot and they put nest thermostats in place of where 7700x go lmao.

I chatted with total tech support. He sent me a new one at 0 cost, I see it under order. Told me he will give me different label to return the nest sensors but its separate just to send those back via ups. If I don't want to I can keep em and use em with nest thermostat lol. But gonna send em back though. The chat dropped out for some reason while he was working on it. I do see the order for 0 dollars for new 7700x as item two. Also said he has full return policy still if I need to return it.

I don't do any encoding or anything so 7700x seems like a better bet for gaming until new X3D versions come out. Rather invest that money towards other parts.

check this out maybe the 7950 single ccd might be even faster than a 7700x when you disable one ccd

https://www.hardwaretimes.com/amd-r...ks-and-higher-latency-with-both-ccds-enabled/

TBH, now i want to test this on my 5950X... lol. However; the boosting is not as big of a difference between the CCDs on Zen 3. I'll get 5.0~5.2Ghz on CCD0 gaming and 4.8~4.95Ghz on CCD1. I think they all average out live values around the same 4.8~4.9Ghz range.

for people on the wall about am5 , looking at 13900k you can see how much more efficient am5 is and plus it and a nice upgrade path for future cost , Unless all out gaming its hard to beat Intel , but ill take more efficient route

The 7600x is looking a lot more attractive now that b650 has more availability.

Getting a 7600x with 16 or 32 GB of cheapo ddr5 opens a great upgrade path to the 7800x3d and more premium 32 or 64 GB of ddr5.

This seems like a better investment for gamers than the 13600k as that is at a dead end platform.

Wow, the 7950x is an efficiency beast at 105w. It only loses like 5% performance in applications while lowering temos by 30*C. No real reason not to run it in eco mode as it doesn't affect gaming in any way either.

At 4K though, even with a 4090, performance is basically equal, no? And expected to strongly favor AMD when the new XD processors come out.

The performance goes back and forth between both, the win with amd is if you go out of the review specs and tune Ryzen 4 is way more efficient than not only intel but it own Ryzen 3 counterparts, plus you get ipc advantage and also to pick if you want to be high clocked or low clocked, in Ryzen 3 you were locked to what you had. The win intel has its cheaper and it lower end parts are very very competitive, but the end is its power hungy hot and end of life. x670e is expensive but honestly it wants much more than My dark hero and it gives me 4 x nvme with no penalty , Intel z790 is a copy of Intel z690 and has pci limitations for drives . .

Nonsense, Intel just had to do anything to come out first in most benchmarks because this increases sales.
Otherwise Raptor Lake is actually (and quite surprisingly...) quite efficient.
When not factory overclocked and rather power limited it runs very similar to 7950x with the same power limit.
