This seems to prove that lower performance on games we have seen when R7 launched actually resulted from games being optimised for Intel CPUs.

If anyone still think that Ryzen is junk for gaming, they should have their brain checked.
 
might want to revise that title, as it's the Ryzen 1700 in the video...
 
These comparisons are interesting, but not compelling. Sure, Ryzen appears to offer a lot of value, but comparing to anything but a 7700K in the gaming arena seems irrelevant.

If someone is concerned cheify with gaming, they aren't going to be choosing an 6800K over a 7700K.

CPU/Price: Newegg prices today 5/5/2017

  • R7-1700 - $325 (8-core)
  • i7-6800K - $440 (6-core)
  • i7-7700K - $350 (4-core)
Even the prices suggest a better comparison between a 'real decision' someone might go through.

I could even see a comparison of a R5-1600 or R4-1400 @ 4GHZ and some sort of $ per FPS metric being interesting. It's a value play, it's not taking the outright performance crown, at least yet.

I'm excited for future Ryzen revisions and refreshes, I think it's a great step forward, but not quite there yet.

Exactly what I thought when I watched the video. Maybe he was trying to show gaming performance of workstation CPUs? 1700 vs 7700k would be more logical as they are also about the same price.
At least the video confirms that Ryzen is also a good architecture for gaming.
 
Really odd thing here is that if software supports more cores gaming actually improves , unheard of ...

People cherry pick the 6800K because they know it's often worse than a 7700K in games.

Doubt it would make much of a difference. From what I have seen Intels 4c/8t 6xxx series and up and the Ryzens (at least the 8cores) all can easily max the frame rate at 144fps with only a minimum of 140fps @1080p. And with higher level GPUs even 1440p does 140s. 4K isn't too performance pretty but seems able to maintain 60fps with an appropriate GPU to do so.
