Russia Blocks PornHub

We want to extent our deepest condolences to our brothers in Russia during these hard times. :D

In what is undoubtedly the first move of many towards banning erections altogether, Russian media watchdog Raskomnadzor announced Monday that it will block 11 porn sites, including the Russian-language section of PornHub. After the city of Krasnodar successfully banned those sites in July (citing laws from the early 1900s) it was only a matter of time before the country put the precedent into practice.

I would hate to live in Russia, beautiful people, culture but these laws hurt their freedoms. Russia has been banning a lot of stuff. Mostly for the reason the US has successful destroyed their economy by making sure gas prices are very low. It's had a horrible ripple effect. Gas is $2.15 in my area

Never have understood why Russia can't seem to form relatively free republic. They seem to have the necessary ingredients.

It remains unclear why the court targeted these specific sites
Someone leaked the courts sexy-time videos to these sites. The chances of someone overdubbing their voices so they show up in places other than "the Russian-language section" is pretty low, as their performances are apparently not popular enough.

Russia is great :p

Except a way to defend against an armed tyrannical government. I'm guessing, but am I wrong? That seems to be the one ingredient necessary for any revolution or freedom-loving cause.

The puppeteers in the US would like the price of gas high, trust me. OPEC is in the drivers seat, particularly Saudi Arabia when it comes to global pricing. SA is pumping oil like madmen to defund Iran. And probably no love lost for Russia since they helped them get a sweatheart deal to lift sanction and bans on ICBM technology.

The US isn't the only power in the world anymore, if it ever was.

Because Russians are the masters of surviving tyranny. They know that this guy will die and a new one will come, Russians can survive anything.

The last cockroach will probably be squished by a Russian. He'll be starving, broke, and miserable and probably in a political prison. But he'll survive.

There they are, a country with plenty of weapons in the populace, and not some twit with a chrome .45, these are useful weapons. Arming a populace doesn't prevent tyranny though, since a skilled tyrant knows to turn his or her populace against itself.

All you do is promise to kick the shit out of someone who is not like someone else and the peons will cheer. "We'll build a wall to keep them out and deport the ones that are here!". We've all heard it before. Every time people cheer that someone else is losing their rights it's because they're too focused on the scape goat to notice their own rights vanishing at the same time.

Putin is a master of turning Russians against Russians that aren't Russian enough, he's a professional scape goat hunter, Gays? Brown People? Immigrants? Muslims? Intellectuals? He's blamed them all, and his masses have cheered every time he's chipped away at the rights of all Russians. Assured it was only going to affect "them", not "true Russians".

The most disappointing thing about this is that so many people think that people have to have access to porn in order to be a free and happy society. That's some super messed up thinking and very, very disappointing.

I'm more disappointed when people want to see things they don't like taken away from other people who do like them.

Normally I'd agree except when it comes to people who are irresponsible and then they clearly can't have certain things. Porn is one of those things since causes the visually-infatuated among us to ruin perfectly good furniture and tube socks and that comes at an expense in energy for replacement resulting in vast amounts of unnecessary ecological destruction and global warming. Besides that, it's pretty clear that Russians don't even need porn since they're a lot better at the hookup thing than a bunch of American computer nerds who are so afraid of sex that they close their eyes really, really tight when they take a bath (while claiming loudly to be a huge stud muffin to other computer nerds who don't know enough to call them out on the inaccuracies of their stories).

No, you're right.

The idea of a peoples militia in places like Russia or the US is pretty laughable at this point. It doesn't really matter how many rifles and side arms you own, won't do much against a Drone strike, an Attack Helicopter or really any other air born weapon.

And yet ISIS ground troops in the Middle East (many of which are using unarmored truck and rifles) have managed to take over large chunks of land even with being repeatedly targeted by US drone strikes and bombing runs... Simple ground troops can get the job done if they have some decent logistics and numbers.

The US destroyed? What about Canadian tar sands? People will find a way to get oil when the price gets high enough, it will make certain vectors of production more profitable.

As for low gas hurting their economy, they need to diversify beyond oil, and cracking down on the internet and other freedoms is not making the place easier to do business in. They have done that to themselves, not the least of which by being so easily distracted and whipped into a fury by Putin over Ukraine and other perceived slights to take attention off the home front.

Hmm.... but who is the real guilty party here? The said nerd or the parents that gave birth to the said nerd? The nerd didn't choose to be in this world, the parents chose to have a child, which led to the said nerd?

Absolutely no choice vs half a choice.

On a more serious note, perhaps they are reverting to their USSR ways?

Having lived in Blue Law States (which, BTW have and in some cases still include Indiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, etc ignoring the god forsaken ABC stores and model which is worse) if you can't figure out that issue you don't deserve to buy alcohol at 1am.

The low oil price is not just destroying russia, but also American wells out west. Our rig counts have been dropping like a rock over the past year and there's lots of layoffs. Its pretty much a massacre all over the world for oil companies.

Thank you Saudi Arabia for your geopolitical chess game that is running out of control

We handed the House of Saud control of a vast amount of the global economy when we decided Iran was Evil and KSA was good. Iran isn't a very nice country for a lot of people, but the KSA is a brutal theocratic monarchy that parades people to execution at a pace that would give even the most radical conservatives a big old stiffy. We deal with them because they promised to be a good, little puppet. That's always worked out so well for all of us.

There's a lesson here about pet vipers etc etc.

Honestly? It's both. I'm just using some funnies and humor to flavor my actual view about this situation. It's what I usually do otherwise I seem like a super-caustic psycho who passionately hates all of humanity.

No choice at all is a far better option. The average person who would look at that junk (maybe it's not as bad in Russia, but the average doofer-headed-moron-face in the US anyhow) is totally incapable of being responsible so they need a government to keep them safe from pretty much everything. The stuff Russia is blocking should help make their society better and smarter rather than stupider and crustier by channeling all that energy wasted on worthless, disgusting desires into productive output.

You'll understand once you visit their country or meet actual Russians. They are extremely hateful people thanks to a long lasting government propaganda. They hate each other a lot.

I work with a guy who moved to Bulgaria 10 years ago and he says he's happy because, and I am citing "well, I like it here because when I go to the store at least someone from the stuff would smile to me". He also said Obama is a monkey. It's beyond silly. That very same guy lived in new york city for a few years and didn't like it. Take that as you will.

I see alot of that same rhetoric being used here. The millionaires on wall street wrecked the economy and now the country is falling apart thanks to welfare recipients, pot heads, gay marriage and Mexicans.

This is one of the smartest posts I've read all year.

The only thing I'd add is that, sadly, a lot of this could be applied to our current administration.

We have our own share of wanna-be Tyrants (as proven over the last 7 years).

And Michael Bloomberg? This fucking guy is the model for the Evil "Dr. Raymond Cockteau" in the movie "Demolition Man". If you haven't seen this movie, you need to. It's an education on where we are headed if we keep electing the people we are electing into office.

I mean cmon....:

Michael Bloomberg:

And the evil Dr. Raymond Cockteau:

If you consider Bloomberg to be evil, allow me to comfort you... there are plenty of candidates for the next presidential election that would put Bloomberg to shame, albeit they would allow you to get all the soft drinks you'd want.
But if banning sugary drinks is what you consider 'evil', clearly you're not ready for what's coming next.

Remember..... PRIORITIES!

I am thinking of 'The Animals Stricken by the Plague' and the 'The Emperor's New Clothes' somehow mashed together into one story.
