Agreed.
There is no one capable of taking the helm.

I also absolutely despise Konami for literally being in process to build all these games several years ago - and then cancelling them - and now wanting to bring them back.
They don't deserve their IP's. They don't really deserve to make money through them. If they want to make iOS games and Pachinko Parlor machines, fine - go do that. Get them out of here.

LoI aged better then the N64 titles.

The original CV64 had issues, specifically the infinitely spawning enemies in the Forest of Silence (Stage 1) and the jank camera, nevermind the cut content. Legacy of Darkness was a good attempt to fix things, but is still realistically a 7/10 title at best. Fact is, the 3d games got better once Konami learned to drop the platforming aspect, but the end result was unfortunately still just a worse implementation of what other titles were doing (God of War immediately comes to mind).

Rumors are saying that Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake and a Silent Hill Remake will be announced today at the PlayStation Showcase for PS5 and PC.

MGS 3 rumor looks likely to be true, Silent Hill looks to be wishful thinking. The Silent Hill 2 remake, on the other hand, may actually show some gameplay this time. There will also likely be a classic collection encompassing the 3 original MGS games.

I never played any Metal Gear Games except the first one for the NES. I played the one with the Cardboard Box for a while I also played one where everything was on fire and I crawled on the floor.
I had to look Metal Gear the Phantom Pain have 2.5 hours in the game last played 2015.

A Snake Eater remake? I'll wait for reviews on this no matter what. Konami has left a pretty bad taste in my mouth for a lot of the stuff they've done in recent years. Capcom basically started the money printers with the Resident Evil Remake series which are making them serious bank and they've earned the good reputation for what they're doing to those games, but, to me, Konami will all but permanently be a wait and see when it comes to games.

Konami is aware of how poorly MGS Survive was received. So I think the game will probably be remade faithfully since it would kill their future MGS games if it wasn't. My concern is they will find a way to include micro transactions.
 
Didn't Konami get rid of most of their talent (at least the top franchise guys). Who's left over there?

Konami isn't that smart.

They aren't remaking this game because they love their IP and want to bring it to a new generation. They're doing this because Capcom is making money remaking old games. So Konami is going to remake their most popular old games, as cheaply and as quickly as possible.

Notice they aren't remaking MG, MG2, MGS, MGS2: They're remaking the most beloved and popular entry because the suits plugged that title into an equation and it popped out the most $$$.

I have NO FAITH in Konami, except faith that they will screw this up and it will be a buggy, poorly made, unfaithful excuse of a remake that people forget about after 3 months.

Edit: And I'll add, they probably WILL add tons of pre-order bonuses, microtransactions, season passes, and promises of future content/patches that never come. Also, nearly all of the microtransactions will not be present or even HINTED at in the review versions, and enabled via a patch AFTER the game review embargo lifts and is on store shelves.

Or Hell, remake MG 1 and 2, those are the hardest ones for new players to get ahold of, and a creative team could take a lot of liberty in re-imagining these old 8 and 16-bit games with modern game mechanics, graphics, deepening the stories... So much creative opportunity and with little chance of 'tarnishing the originals' because they were so simplistic and... lets face it: 30 years old.

But "creative opportunity" is a joke: we're talking about Konami. The last "creative" part of Konami was wiped off of Kojima's ass before he flushed one last time and left.
 
Also, the fact that they're not simply titling it MGS3 Remake and calling it something like Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater means they intend to do some potentially drastic other things to it. I have a feeling that this since MGS3 was 'the canonical start' of the series, may mean they intend to begin remaking all the other titles as well...I'm just getting a feeling that there's something else going on with this...

could be Okay if a competent company that truly loved its IP like Capcom did it.

I don't see how people keep forgetting this is the company that released Silent Hill '"HD'" edition that looked and ran worse than its PS2 version, failed to patch it... fired Hideo Kojima, cancelled all his projects and would not allow him to accept a Prestigeous award, and put all their efforts into turning their IPs into pachinko machines.

This. Is. Konami. I'm trying to save you guys heartbreak. Like when that naive young girl is dating the scumbag criminal, I'm trying to help you guys avoid emotional trauma. Don't expect, hope, imagine or even speculate that anything Konami does will attain any level of greatness.
 
I'm interested. Maybe they chose MGS 3 because it would work as a prequel to MGS5 for those of us that only played that game like myself. Of course there was still a game or two between MGS3 and 5. I too would have thought an MG1/2 remake would be best because those were 2D games. All that being said while I might enjoy it even if not exactly faithful I have low expectations for this. I don't really trust Konami with much of anything.
 
Hopefully Sony has a hand in helping make it. If it is all Konami I have zero hopes for it.

What has Konami released that was so bad to make you lose faith in their quality? The only game I can think of that was trash was Metal Gear Survive and that's just my opinion, it had mixed reviews which isn't all that bad, I just didn't think it felt like a Metal Gear game. I thought the recent Castlevania games were pretty good, the Metal Gear Solid has always been good, Silent Hill was pretty good, Suikoden was good, Bomberman was good. Did you come to your conclusion based off 1 game? Metal Gear isn't a sports game so don't bother using Fifa as a basis for comparison, all sports games have trash business models. Or are you just butthurt they fired Kojima? I liked Kojima, and like his games. He was clearly fired for going over budget on MGSV and not meeting deadlines. If you go over budget and don't meet deadlines at any job you'll likely be reprimanded or fired.

Anyways I think the game is being done by an outside studio

The recent castlevania games? how recent? like, 10 years ago recent? Konami USED to be an amazing publishing studio, but in the last 10 years they've completely shat out any talent they had and pivoted toward gabling machines.

I agree with you that Konami was once an amazing company. But the entire pachislot thing was a change in business direction, it doesn't make them any worse of a video game publisher, pachislot was the biggest gaming experience in Japan at the time, so they followed the trend. We will see how this game turns out, I'm going to remain optimistic, but yea I understand it can be a microtransaction infested game like they did with MGSV. My apologies for my response to you coming off as slightly heated, I had a chaotic day which is no excuse, I shouldn't have brought that to the forum.

That was before Konami restructured their digital entertainment division a couple years ago to refocus on traditional video games. Before that Konami were boasting of how the future lied in mobile gaming and refocused on quicker ROI in gambling machines. Turned out the shareholders actually prefer the larger revenue generated from the slower ROI of traditional video games.
 
Not to also mention that thee pachislot market took a huge dump. Most of the peeople that play are all older, very few young people have any desire to play. Plus on top of that the market has been hit by revenue issues due to the economy and new taxes and regulation. Pachislot is not the money printer it was in the past, so konami cant build its company around a dying market.
 
As a big Metal Gear fan, I'm pretty psyched to see these coming back. I was concerned they wouldn't be able to get Hayter back onboard for MGS3 too. Sutherland did great on MGS5, but there's really no true replacement for David.

Now if only they could give some indication of finally freeing MGS4 from the PS3.

I dunno, I moved from pessimistic to cautiously optimistic with Konami pulling off a decent remaster. I didn't realize how much they've shored up their development staff (though Kojima did take a large chunk with him). As much as I hate what Konami became, it'd be great to have the old Konami back.

Yeah Sutherland was good performance wise, but it wasn't Snake

Will they actually manage to deliver the... Kojima aspect of these games? My worry is something will be lost in translation and they'll mess up the goofy spirit of it.
 
It looks like the collection only includes the PSX version of MGS. I would have liked to see the Gamecube remake, instead.

Yeah, I was surprised that they are developing the remake in-house. Their initial strategy seemed to be to go back being the large publishing house they were in the 80s-90s, with all of the Silent Hill games being made by outside studios. Perhaps they don't trust anybody else with this particular IP.

They said they're keeping the original story and spirit while adding more content, so we'll see.
 
My main concern is they will make the game a seemless connected world, which is totally possible since all the zones technically did connect. I think I would prefer them to keep it in zones/segmented in the spirit of the original.

I hope they keep an option for the original camera. I played the game so much that it might be too strange for me to play it 3rd person. I also wonder what they will do since controllers don't have pressure sensitive buttons anymore, I know they released the game for PS3, but I don't know how that was handled.
