I find nothing more annoying than Newbie threads, that ask "whats the best truck/ videocard/ motherboard ..." and have very little other information.

I really wanted to see a "im new to computers and I want to build one" section, to help organize things. I dont mind them (I was a newbie not that long ago to this A64 stuff), but when all they ask is I want to build this and I have that much to spend...

No, this is not a rant. Is it that hard to be required to answer "What for" "how much" "what size" and "what will you be doin' with it?". Its hard to give the person on the "best" setup if you have very little specifics.

what do the rest of you think?
 
From the start the forums have always taken the stance that we were n00bs at some point and everyone has the right to ask less than intelligent questions and fail to include pertinent information when asking. Consider it a right of passage. If the questions truly bother you, move on to another thread ;)

I'd honestly have to agree. A lot of people don't know. We all have done one of three things to figure out what they're tring to figure out: 1.)Took classes 2.)took a chance and tried it. or 3.)asked someone who might know. Some cannot take classes or simply don't-that's no reason to not help. Some people don't want to/don't have money to take chances with their problem....they'd like to...............drumroll..................ask someone, and I beleive that's what a lot of us are here for....either that or to get info-like the people I'm talking about-which we should all be willing to help.
 
There's already tons of readily information here and elsewhere. A sticky or rule or whatever won't change that.

Posters like that are either confused by the amount of information with no experiance to tell them what's important, or have already done alot of research but want someone more experianced to look and make sure they're not about to overlook something important. You also get the occasional idiot, but idiots are going to be idiots no matter what you do.

Whatever happened to learning from someone else's problems and questions? I think answering new user's questions keep my own knowledge fine tuned.
 
I say either live with the n00bi3z and help them (or not) or go to a different forum...there will ALWAYS be n00bs here...why?? Cause this is a growing community...Everyone starts off as a n00b at some time...whether it's someone who's already familiar with computers or someone who is completely new to computers and need a little help...Just put up with their posts if it annoys you so...maybe you could kindly point out their little annoyances and suggest a better way for him/her to ask a question or whatever...n00bs are not gonna go away so just help them or put up with them or whatever...

I don't really think a newbie forum is needed, but I do think if there was one lots of people would be willing to help since it seems most people here are more than happy to offer suggestions to newcomers.
 
I agree that this sub section should be added, i would visit it with my checks, so i say add it up :p
 
The previous suggestions for n00bs have been limit their posting abilities to certain forums, no posting abilities at all for a period of time, posting limited to a n00b forum only, open season on n00b bashing to thin the herd and several more that don't merit keystrokes........the answer is always the same......everyone on the [H] has the same opportunity to ask and receive information as well as contribute and I don't see a policy change in the future.
 
FWIT I've seen some Noob threads evolve into some interesting reads
(aside from the ocasional basher boneheaded responses from the so called experts, with the holyer then thow attitude, that know everyting)
The dang noobs even from time to time make some good points!

If you can't mange to move on to another thread, why not do something constructive to help the newer users? Writing a FAQ about how to ask good questions might help, like this one.

Or keep a leaderboard about the best truck / videocard / motherboard, including information about why you made those decisions and what tradeoffs other people might want to make.
 
I think ive been misunderstood. I wanted to know if others thought something like a message in every default forum page (I know, every forum has a default page it uses for colors and text and the CGI/Perl/PHP script puts in the rest) could say "Please include specific information about xxx when asking a question...".

Ive seen this change happen in a few forums many years ago, and it looks like it makes things go smoother. I guess a rule "amendment" may not do anything, but even a simple reminder...

Oh well. I have been trying to put together my "pearls of wisdom " (what NOT to do's) on a website. Every time, like magic, I get a hardware faliure after several weeks straight worth of work (dead hard drive, something catastrophic that ruins it).

I know what its like to be a newbie. I built my last system a month ago. S939 athlon, pci express, its an awesome budget machine. Before then, I sat up for hours on end every day reading every review site, forum, news article and try to sort out the crap. It was an incredible task of crap sorting.

Before then, my last "modern" build was a PII-400. Before that, I had a commodore 64... Thigns change fast, and a newbie cant simply "google it" and find out the best video card, hard drive, mobo, ram and cpu combination for his/her budget.

just remember, all I ask for is input on if a reminder would be worth bothering with...

I don't see anything wrong with asking someone "have you tried to google or ice czar it?'
If done in a nice way.
What I have seen from the response to positive Q & A's is the noob comes back with the info they found (or not) and supports their query.
Very helpful indeed.
What you are suggesting really pertains only to the people that need rules and laws cause they just don't get it and disregard the rules anyway :confused:
But on point,
Reminders are a good thing!
 
i don't have problem with "dumb n00b" threads.. you either help them out.. or you don't.. i don't see the problem..
