Rockstar Games Announces Grand Theft Auto IV for the PC.

What would you call someone who is willing to pay money for less product because they don't want to get technical or have the drive or mental element to do so?

Main Entry: un·con·cerned
Pronunciation: \-ˈsərnd\
Function: adjective
Date: circa 1635
1 : not involved : not having any part or interest
2 : not anxious or upset : free of worry
synonyms see indifferent

Based on that... they are unconcerned with paying more money for less product because they lack the "mental element" or technical knowledge?

That doesn't really explain anything, unless most people have money to waste and thus are unconcerned with making poor purchases.

They lack the desire. Everyone does this every day. There is always a better way, or a cheaper way to do something. In the context of building your own machine, people who buy all of their parts at newegg are 'stupid and lazy' to a degree. See how ridiculous that is? You want to stop this now?

All I was saying is that instead of going to Best Buy and buying first computer they find they should research it first. I don't see how this is outrageous?

I think that the general public is too scared to do research and try to build their own PC. When ever I talk to someone who is not "computer literate" I get the feeling that people think that it takes a PHD in computer science to build a computer. I don't know where this fear comes from, but I think Intel, Nvidia, AMD, and, ATI need to begin marketing their components to the general public in a better way. Computers are advertised as mainstream, and individual components should be marketed the same way.

I think this will be the first GTA game I buy for the PC. I played GTA 1 and 2 demos many, many years ago and enjoyed them, missed out on GTA3, SA, VC, so I will buy this one!

There's a mental element. People don't want to get technical with things if they don't have to. That doesn't make them stupid or lazy, they just might not have the drive to do so.

:p

It's so painfully obvious, he all but said lazy :D

Oh. and since we are throwing out dictionary definitions:
Dictionary: lazy (lā'zē)
1. Resistant to work or exertion;

Exertion can also be aptly applied to mental exertion just as well as physical exertion.
The brain is an organ that does work too you know.

Exactly, I have a degree in ECE (Electrical/Computer Engineering) and an MBA with a concentration in Information Systems, so anytime one of my computer illiterate family members or friends seeks my assistance, they automatically assume that I must have learned what I know because of school.

I mean, my degrees for all intents and purposes have virtually nothing at all to do with my general PC knowledge.
PC knowledge in the form that builders and troubleshooters possess is more like techy knowledge, whereas understanding the inner-workings of the hardware/software on a more technical level is indeed the realm of engineers and scientists.

In other words, my techy knowledge could be aquired without any sorts of advanced degrees or student loans, and any average joe who spends a few hours reading forums on an off weekend can figure out how to build a PC just as I do. But what does the average joe do instead, he spends those few hours going out to best buy so as to avoid having to learn anything new...so when Joe spends $600 on his Dell/HP/whatever and wonders why it doesnt play games like a custom $600 PC built by someone who did his weekend research, then Joe only has himself and his LAZINESS/unwillingess to research to blame.

Analogies are FTW because they allow me to pwn you :p

Now do you build your own car? no. If you needed to replace your transmission, would you know how to do it yourself? If not then you are stupid and lazy.

and people buy Dells because Dells are great for doing the most common PC tasks.
Oh so very, VERY wrong. First, yes, I could figure out how to rebuild / replace my transmission. Do I have the tools and garage ? NO

Do you need similar tools and garage for to build PC ? Also NO

So, to sum up, in one case, lacking expensive tools and garage, in the second case, stupid AND lazy. Dells are great... for nothing. They are overpriced for no apparent reason, offering you almost nothing but bloatware and outsourced tech support that will first ask you if you computer is turned on.

Dell computers are not better at "common PC tasks" than a PC built by anyone else, including you, but they ARE more expensive.

The common element between being handy with cars and being handy with computers is that certain technical confidence that many people don't have and don't care to have. That doesn't make them stupid or lazy though. .
Quite true. However, if you are posting on this forum about it, then you are not the general public and consequently, stupid AND lazy

Finally!!! I think GTA SA is a better game than IV, but I just cant miss out on that GTA action.

Screw that.

Im getting it on the PC for more reasons than just the added MP, which will be a nice added bonus of course.

No more slowdowns and sluggish game play (even if they do a half decent job of porting it, PC video cards are soooo much faster than the GPUs inside the PS3/X360 that they will still run circles around the console versions even with a less than ideal port -- but no reason to even be cynical about that as all of the previous ports ran exceptionally well on the PC).

Crazy high resolutions
Much sharper graphics with AA
Much crisper graphics with AF
Moddability
Far superior control scheme on foot (with mouse/kb), and I for one never minded driving with a mouse/kb either on any of the other GTA's, in fact I preferred it. Nevertheless, we still have option to use X360 gamepads, PS2/PS3 ones too, or any of the several PC native pads if we are so inclined.

This will be GTA IV the way it was intended without any of the console limitations.

Yep, you can do that with an expenive video card, all for the almost twice the price of an XBOX 360.

I am a PC gamer and a console gamer, but lets be realistic, you can sure do some awesome stuff with PCs but they also cost A LOT. I know trust me, I have one.

Plus XBOX 360 and PS3 games dont look that bad, they still look amazing they just dont look as perfect as a killer PC rig does..

Sorry man not trying to flame you or anything, it just sickens see people get so upset about gaming, all games are supposed to be fun rather they are on 360, PS3 or the PC.

PC's also cost 2x more than consoles because PC's are used for:
Doing your homework
Doing your taxes
Creating presentations for work
Designing websites
Editing videos, music, photos
Creating videos, music, and photos
Communication systems
Publishing
Watching television
Watching DVD's
Listening to the radio
Blogging
Reading forums
Download services
Recording CD's/DVD's
Networking
Printing
Scanning
Oh, and of course....gaming

And yet, I could go on ad infinitum, really, but I hope you get the point.

Oh, and on a console, you can do what?
Gaming
Some rudimentary multimedia tasks, such as listening to a few select formats of songs and watching a few select formats of videos, and .....hmmmm.....oh yeah, no wait, nope...that's about it really.

Anyone who factors in the extensive capabilities of the PC versus the once again limited capabilities of any console should come to realize that PC's by such standards are especially cheap these days.

I remember back in the early 80's PC's cost the same amount as cars.
Many IBM's were selling in the neighberhood of $8000 back in the days.
Consoles still sold for $200 however.

PC's have become ridiculously cheap and quite the value by all accounts.
So instead of even having the audacity to bring up 2x the cost (considering the nearly infinite possibilities PC's offer users) you should be thankful that we are still not paying 20x the cost if anything.

2x the cost is really NOTHING considering how much bang you get for your buck.

We are off topic now. OP sorry for this.

final:

XBOX 360 - ease of use, instant satisfaction
PS3 - same
Wii - Same
PC - slightly(considering what the NES looked like) better looking than top XBOX360 and PS3 games, endless uses, as stated in above quote

each gaming system is used for different things, play whats fun and what you can afford

By the way a cheap computer can cost $600 and can do everything mentioned in above quote except game, add a 360 in there or a PS3 and your barely breaking $1000 dollars. my PC cost me almost $1700. Do the math. Again, to the OP, sorry for getting off topic.

Can we ban the two moron's and get back on topic please:rolleyes:
Seriously!

I have not played it yet and I'm excited to get the opportunity. Disappointing that some here did not enjoy it, but that's not gonna stop me from picking it up. Rockstar always does a good job with their GTA ports.

I want to thank the idiots who ruined a perfectly normal thread so they could argue over who has the biggest e-penis. I started reading this thread because I wanted some insight into playing GTA IV on the PC, not some trivial bullshit argument over the pros and cons of building PCs, transmissions, and a piece of shit 95 Ford Taurus. It's morons like this that ruin forums.

You forgot porn. Computers are only used for porn.

sidenote - Do you have sex with your pc? Cause it seems like it. I dunno, could just be me.

It's also clear that you believe mouse/keyboard is the end-all be-all of controls. Hate to break it to you but mouse/keyboard is good for FPS... AND ONLY FPS. (imo). I'll take GTA on console gamepads any day.

What about RTS and point and click adventure games? Try playing those on pad.

Those games don't interest me much. But in honesty. If the company cared enough and wanted to, they could create a management system and controls that worked just fine on a pad.

Please quote where I said mouse/kb = be all end all, period.
Talk about a lack of reading comprehension.

I also indirectly mentioned in this thread my gamepads (of which I have 2 hooked up to my PC right now, an X360 and a Dual Action -- which replaced my PS2 Dual Shock), so it's not as if I havent explored other options.

As it stands:
Mouse/KB does = be all end all when it comes to FPS, RTS, and PC style RPGs.
However, I use gamepads for racing games, sports games, fighting games, and platform type games (such as Assassins Creed).

For a game such as GTA, I always prefer Mouse/KB though because the level of control it offers is far and above superior to that of a gamepad when on foot (and I dont mind it either for driving as I am quite adept at it).

If some of you still fail to comprehend something so simply stated, then my time is wasted on the likes of you.
And yet some wonder why our education system is in a state of perpetual decline...

wow this is great news, all my time will be eaten up with Red Alert 3 comming out in oct, gta4 in Nov, and the wow expansion some time at the end of this year, I think i need to quit my job in order to play all these games. But, mutiplayer sounds really fun with GTA4 on PC

I am wrong and I don't want to admit it.

Fixed for ya. ;)

Ok, this is the part of my post where I go back to the GTA4 "Will it come out on PC?" thread and post up everyone who said something beyond fucktarded. This is your moment to shine, kids.

I'm not sure this title will ever reach the PC. With 6 million units expected to sell in the first week and 1 billion profit on the consoles do they really need to release it on the PC. I'm not going to hold my breath.

brucedeluxe169 said:
yea... just like they *had* to release Bully, Manhunt 2, Vice City/Liberty City stories, The Warriors (god i really wanted to play that...), etc on the PC?

I'm not saying it wont be released for us (i actually *do* think we'll get it around spring 09 sometime).... but saying that it *will* is just foolish.....

Go over to a friends house and play it, or rent a 360 and the game from blockbuster or something, you don't even know if its ever going to come out on PC

have fun waiting!

lloose said:
Why would they want to bring it to pc? So people can download it for free from torrent sites? : /
Its the highest selling xbox 360 game right now.. they aren't going to screw that up by investing more money into the pc version that will sit on shelves because of piracy.

lloose said:
We all know that porting graphics from consoles to pc is free. The developers work for monopoly money and pencil shavings right? Why take away from Xbox/PS3 sales? I bought my xbox 360 just because of GTA 4 and im sure im not the only one. Microsoft has to be happy with that.

Retarded logic?

And here, folks, we have the "Gabe3 DERRRRRRRRRR Hall of Fame".

Gabe3 said:
Its probably not worth it for them to spend the money on developing a PC version. It sounds like you think PC versions just grow on trees where you live. I'm tired of hearing all these PC fan boys bitch about how their sloppy second PC gets the left overs. Just buy a console and shut up. Its not like it's a FPS game that shines on a PC, its a 3rd person shooter and I hate playing GTA on the PC. The best of both worlds is oh so sweet.

Gabe3 said:
Who are these friends? No surprise if it doesn't come out for PC this year, they would have already announced it. Maybe at the earliest Q1-Q2 2009. Devs are busy working on downloadable content.

Gabe3 said:
If its such ridiculous logic then where is the console[sic] version already. Keep praying it eventually comes out for your sloppy second.

Gabe3 said:
If its such a good idea to make a PC version then where is it already? At least where is a announcement?

and releasing both at once just delays the game for console owners.

lol no it doesnt. the game was made on a freaking pc mate. the pc version was done already and ported to the consoles. try making a game on a 360/ps3 machine LOL have fun coding using a joypad :)

Way to ignore my post then, as I touched on this very senesless point that you are trying to make.

As I stated, there are entire tutorials, videos even, online that detail how to build your own PC and require little more than an hour of reading/viewing to know exactly what parts to purchase, where to purchase them from, and subsequently how to put it all together (and for a novice even, they can really do it in an hour if they follow the tutorials).

There is usually very little variation involved, all PCI-E cards go in the same way, all hard drives can be installed in one of two ways, optical drives are the same, and the way you hook up the PSU, or configure the mobo and attach the CPU usually involves little more than spending all of 5 minutes looking at a manual to know where the pins go or some of the power leads and such.

Once again, all of this information is readily available in the form of tutorials online, and in 99% of the cases, the information remains the same for custom builds.

Now with cars on the other hand, let's not be purposely obtuse and disingenous.
I mean seriously, cars and their inner workings, and the numerous configurations are on the level of many magnitudes more convoluted than PC's.

My PC:
- 1 mobo
- 1 CPU
- 1 CPU HS/Fan
- 1 Video Card
- RAM (4 sticks, you know how to put in 1, you know how to put in the other 3 as well)
- HD (2 of them, once more, you know how to put in 1, you know how to put in the other 1 as well
- DVD Drive (2 of them, once more, you know how to put in 1, you know how to put in the other 1 as well)
- 1 PSU
- Fans
- 1 Case

In terms of unique components that make up my PC as in most PC's, there are 10 different types of parts, as noted above.

Do you want to venture a guess as to how many unique parts go into a car, and how many of those parts differ from car to car in terms of how they are built and connected.

I can guarantee you that not a single person here who hasnt any experience with building a car could actually assemble one let alone reassemble one without investing very heavily in researching everything they possibly can for days if not weeks on end.

Your analogy, for all intents and purposes was weak and quite sensational to say the least -- in other words, it sucked. ;)
...trying to compare something that would take days if not weeks to do versus something that would take hours to do for a novice.

HAHA brillient post. i will add this

pcs are built from a small number of standardised parts, a car has thousands of non-standard parts - how could you compare the two, besides if you mess up building a car you could DIE so who'd risk it lol. not nice if your driving in a moto and you breaks suddently dont work LOL.

in my old workplace i confinced two people old enough to be my dad with next to NO knowledge of how to build pc's and within a week of guiding them, they build there OWN pc's themselves.

if you realy want to know how to build a pc you can. people who thing its too difficult are just plane lazy and dumb peroiod because if my old workmate can build a pc from scratch then so can your mum and dad if they realy wanted too

You guys are seriously aruging about which controller is better, lol? The geek vibe just went up in this thread 100 points.

Awwww wow. Thanks for the ROFL moment at work, I now have to explain to co-workers. I'm glad it's coming out on PC, though. I've always liked GTA series on PC better then console......

Outstanding and expected. I'll be walking in that day and trading in my PS3 version for what I know will be the ultimate version of this game.

I can't wait to use KBM with this. I had finally learned how to use KBM in San Andreas and once you get used to it there's nothing like it. :)

That's the thing. there is no better controller, it's all in eyes of the beholder. hey i just made a rap.

oh and mastercheeze, that's pretty sad that you dug up all those posts. by the way my quote is still relevant.

I'm more concerned with the people who were just too 'plane' lazy to pay attention in english class.

I'm equally concerned with the people who try to correct others' spelling, and then spell "too" as "to"... ;)

It would be prudent to not be so impetuous when trying to zing a guy.

I bought a PS3 to play GTA4, now I am considering to sell the PS3 with GTA4.
However ..., in some sense it may be worth to hold on to it since pretty much any worth playing (short of strictly online games) title is likely to come out for consoles first?

I misspelled that intentionally to prove a point obviously. and no one can prove otherwise! :D
