Rocketfish Aluminum Full Tower Case--BestBuy Clearance $71.99

Can anyone else confirm this? It's been linked to many times in this thread? Have you tried it, and if so, what doesn't fit on it?

I can confirm because I have the damn panel sitting next to me NOT WORKING. If you want it I'll sell it cheaper than anywhere you can find it. Try your luck with it, I already had my top panel CNC'd by a friend of mine to accept a 360mm radiator. The top panel is too wide by about 1/4" total and comes up a little short length wise.

One left at the following location for the $50 price.

Natomas CA 3690 N Freeway Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95834-1993

so anyone else have trouble with HDD led not working? it seems that they labeled the + - wrong. you just need to flip the connector over and it works fine.

mine was like that. I didn't notice at first because I usually look at the wire color and not the labels.

It happened to me and the pin arrangement on my motherboard didn't let me just flip it around, so I got to learn for the first time that the wires clip into those jumper-plug things in a modular way, allowing you to remove them and swap them around without splicing or soldering. It was useful info to learn, even if an annoying way to learn it.

I took mine back a week ago and now I'm planning on going back tomorrow to buy it again. :p

I had decided to do a SFF build, but I've become jaded with the lack of motherboards I like & the fact that 95% of aftermarket coolers absolutely will not fit in SFF cases...I think I've decided to go back on the 'opposite end of the spectrum' (ie HUGE) and pick up a Rocketfish again.

Luckily the store down the street has them still. :)

any of you guys who go the window, could someone give me measurements of how much aluminum is framing the window and the size of the window.

I'm going to try to mod the side panel as close to the factory one as possible, mainly because i already poured out tool money from previous casemods.

Pssh, why copy the factory window that's too big and shows things you dont really wanna see?

thats actually a pretty cool window, though i want to copy the factory because i like to see the entire innards of my system, i would run without a side panel but i learned that my ferrets like to go inside open computer cases including when they are running. Before i got them i Just left the side panels off :p

In short i like my side panels the way i like my porn... nothing left to the imagination.

Better clean up those fingerprints :D

I gotta say the more I use this case, the more I like it. I have had a few friend check it out, and anyone who takes one look gives it high praise. There is just something special about a huge block of well finished black aluminum that is hard to ignore.

Now does anyone have an easy way to clean the front fan filter? I am talking about the one inside the chassis, not the black grill build into the front bezel. I tossed my manual (oops) so I am not sure what the most easy way of getting at that is.

the only way to get to the front filter is to remove the 2 screws on either side (for a total of 4) that hold the front on. LOL yea and the fingerprints only show in the flash pics not in real life.

if any one in so cal still wants one, when i picked mine up today the oceanside best buy said they had one more.

i really like the way the optical drives just slide in and lock toolless. and the aluminium feels like a different grade than my original antec lanboy. thanks to everyone for the pics and info. i swapped the wires for the led also like others have posted. much thanks, wouldn't have thought of it on my own.

the aluminum feels a lot more flimsy than my lian li pc61... thinner i guess. i havent really measured and compared it. just a feel to it.

also, the optical drives slide in and lock is nice, but when they spin up, specially with crysis annoying securom bullshit it makes an incredibly loud noise cuz theyre not really tight on the mounts... just plastic pegs in holes... small annoyance to anotherwise great case

That's what screws are for.... :D

Which are of how much use? You still have to open the case to attach cables....

Does stability mean anything to you?

Toolless cases are for wussies and hardware reviewers.

You still have to use a screwdriver to attach the motherboard, and the expansion cards (in this case), and the PSU, an the HDDs. A couple more for the ODDs ain't no thang.

Yea, I've yet to see a 100% tool-less case... Some Dell/Gateway cases I've seen come pretty close but still not 100%... :)

Screws are more secure anyways, and a lot of tool-less applications still use a final "securing" screw or have a place to use one if you feel it is necessary...

meh

Just changed my case to the Rocketfish and did some fun modding. Did the side window myself, the top mount for the 320 rad and the loop got redone. I will have it going to my MCR60 when I upgrade.

The UV lights actually work during the daytime with light too, but not enough light and the flash messes it up. Fesser blue UV Die, and it is sure as heck UV reactive.

Really? I always use thumb screws on all the rear slots.

I use thumb screws for my HD on my current case too, but once I switch to the P182, I'll use screws, since they're much longer than any thumb screw I've seen.

Still, PSU, mobo, etc. If you've got the screw driver out, might as well use it. :D

Ok..i joined the lian li/Rocketfish Dance crew :D
..BB in Pembroke Pines Fl,..was the only one with stock..I drove around too!.. they listed it for $71.99..But I got them to price match to other store for 47.99..LOL..FREAKIN HUGH BOX ;)

Redshirt...go to BB and ask..they had 5 on the top shelf..Only way to know is the ask them..
Hey guys check this guy work project..nice work for sure..

RocketFish

I hate when people rig together two cases like that. It reminds me of trailer trash double wides.

:D w1retap: yeah from my link above..his work was coming together really nice till he did that which turned me off too !!

Well I was trying to get one of these cases again; I bought one a few months ago and ended up taking it back with the desire to go SFF. In the end, that idea was more problematic than I expected, so I ended up with an A05A for system #2. I have lately wanted to get another Rocketfish, even if just to have around for a future build or in case I decide to sell my A05A (which may happen sooner than later). The last time I had been in the local Best Buy down the street (when I purchased a Logitech 2.1 system) they had 1 Rocketfish case left on the topmost shelves. I called a few days ago, and they 'held' it for me and my intent was to go down there after work that day to buy it. Of course, that never happened; I got held up at work and never made it.

I called back yesterday to see if they still had it and was told that it had been sold. I was disappointed, no doubt, but decided I'd stop by there anyway at lunch after I stopped at the bank to deposit my paycheck (which is right across the street from the Best Buy). Sure enough, they still had the 1 left, only this time it was at floor level where they had a few other cases (now and the other day). I snagged it up, spent a few minutes trying to figure out a better way to get it to fit in my car (4dr '03 Focus) and *did* find a better way, so luckily my ride home won't be so...cramped in the front seat (I got it to fit between the rear passenger door and my 3 1/2 year old daughter's booster seat).

So now I am happy to say that once again I have...

At Best Buy we have a program called Customer Fulfillment. Basically, if you (or an employee) can find an item at another store that your store doesn't have, they can have it sent to your store. There's no extra fee for this.

So, while I don't know if it applies to this case (as it's presumably on clearance), it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Usually they won't send it from another store, especially if they are losing money on it in the first place, as they would have to pay for shipping, AND sell the item below cost. Can't even find this case on the website anymore. It's definitely "YMMV".

By the way, one of you guys was looking at Performance PCS' price for the black side panel $39.99, which is a decent price, but had complained that the shipping ($30) was too high. I definitely agree, but I needed to order there, because every other site I checked was mysteriously out of stock - EastLuna, CoolerGuys, PC Toys, everywhere known to carry it.

So I decided I would order some other stuff from them as well, and I threw together my order with the desired side panel. Shipping ended up being $33.45 for the entire order, even though the price of the order was only $63!!!

That's over %30 of total spent on shipping! I wrote them a comment in the order form voicing my concern and asking if there was anything they could do. A day or so later, when my order shipped, they emailed me the following:

"refund $17.98
The computer over estimated you shipping because of the side panel. We will alway refund any overage paid for shipping.
Your order has been updated to the following status:
New status: Shipped"

YAY for Performance PCs!! They have gained a new customer and a new "fan" - no pun intended ... Next week I'll have my side panel to install, along with custom lighting and UV reactive goodies ... I will DEFINITELY post pics ... stay tuned!

Okay!!! Here are pics with the side window, finally!

Side panel under light.

Oh yeah ... UV reactive stuff going, too.

Contents03.jpg

Side view with cool lights all going. The Orange UV reactive on the motherboard and PSU cable is a neat surprise, hehe.

Contents04.jpg

There's my trusty 4850. Wish it was maybe a tad more UV reactive...

Now my drive mounting looks much cooler under the blue and UV reactive lighting.

Anyone having trouble with this case rattling? I've had this case for a couple months now and it is driving me NUTS. Whenever I put a CD in the drive it sounds like my computer is going to rattle apart. The aluminum side panels raddle like a MOFO even though the thumbscrews are as tight as can be...any way of fixing this?

mine does the same thing, even though it's the side panel, i removed the front door, re-bent the hinge a little to tighten it so the door doesnt rattle. then i tightened the four screws holding the front panel on, and the side panel stopped rattling.

I removed the front door too, but still no luck:mad:

In order to rattle there must be something causing a fair amount of vibration, perhaps a fan out of alignment or your optical drives? The hard drives have rubber on them dampening vibration if mounted in the standard bays.

I've got 9 fans running in mine along with two optical drives and four hard drives and mine doesn't rattle a bit, even if the fans are at 100%. Sounds like a wind tunnel, but not a single rattle anywhere. Try and trace the source of the vibration that's causing the rattle and see if there's anyway to dampen or absorb it.

I had a rattle until i realized my side panel wasnt on snug enough now all i can hear is fans.
