LiteOn DVD/RW LH-20A1S (maybe 2 years old)
I tried to rip a copy of an older game today using CloneCD and I ran into something unexpected. The rip got to corrupted sectors which is not unusual, but it did take nearly 90 min to finish off the whole CD which is the longest I've ever seen. When I took the original out of the drive, it may have been the hottest CD I've ever felt.
When I put a blank CD into the drive, the program sits there indefinitely waiting for the drive to respond. The CD just spins around for a while and nothing happens and the programs continue waiting for blank media to be inserted. I've tried CloneCD, Nero and the basic Windows burning stuff... but it just seems the burner doesn't recognize blank CDs and is sluggish when reading previously burned CDs. If I stick original CDs into the drive they spin up just fine, BUT original DVDs are eventually auto-ejected by the drive.. and I haven't even tried burned or blank DVDs.
I know if the drive is spitting out discs without reading them its dead, I just want a second opinion and conformation that I need to shell out $25 for a new burner.
