I've been contemplating a future new system, and I want to run Linux because I like it best. For ease I'll probably stick with Ubuntu. In the interest of getting rid of an old Windows XP system, I figured I'd put XP in a virtual machine so I can still get to my old games that Wine won't run. 64 bit Linux and the 32 bit Windows XP Pro I already own. So far it shouldn't be too overly complicated, but here comes the extra part that I'm not so sure about. If possible, I'd like to be able to launch single Windows apps in Gnome without having to tolerate the full Windows desktop. Kinda how Xming lets linux apps appear to run on a Windows desktop, I'd like to reverse it and let my Windows apps appear to run on a Linux desktop. Anyone know of a good existing solution, preferably with good performance?

I think Virtualbox has a seamless mode for Windows apps.

Another possibility would be to look into setting up Wine.

The whole idea was to run things that Wine can't. The seamless mode in VirtualBox sounds promising. Any idea how good it's video performance is? Could I hypothetically run games from it?
