Retriving my data from laptop harddrive

I'm trying to get my data off of my laptop hard drive via a IDE to USB cable. My other computer detects it and I can access the files but my profile in Documents & Settings/ Username says access denied. Is there anywhere on this computer where I can put in the username and password or get around this to access my files? Thanks in advance.
 
Most likely you don't have "ownership" of the folders / files you're trying to access. I've dealt with this many times when trying to recover user's data from damaged systems this way. Here's a guide from Microsoft that should take care of the problem. Let us know if it works for 'ya!
 
I can't find a security tab. I'm using XP Pro and this is the only account on this computer.
