I have hope :| The 780 is a bit more powerful. Although im tempted to get a 580 because i will be buying the division 2 and RE2... IDK what to doooo.

I got my son a RX 570 8GB for $165 (- $30 MIR to $135) over the holidays and I've seen 570/580s for around that price or cheaper without MIR lately as well. From the Digital Foundry demo analysis, the 570 was outperforming the 1060 (what I have in my desktop currently) by at least 10-20% @ 1080/1440p, which was surprising. So these RX 570/580 8GB cards seem to be the best value around at the moment for their performance.
Speaking of which, anyone get this game free with a new AMD card lately? I got this with that aformentioned 570, so I'm hoping I get the key for the game right at midnight, but aren't sure how fast AMD Rewards typically is at getting keys oro for these promos.

Well, my 780 needs to go. The demo was choking at a few points. like 30-45 fps but was a bit studdery. Might be the 3gb of Vram... Guess im going to talk to my wife tomorrow about a 580

I put a few hours in (2.5 according to Steam) I played the start of the game with both characters to kind of see who I preferred to start with, ended up picking Claire on Hardcore. Ended up dieing to the first encounter with a licker, fumbled around a lot because I couldn't figure out how to throw a flashbang and only had 3 bullets. So I'll be starting back to when you get to the police station because I didn't end up saving at the 2nd typewriter, wanted to save ink ribbons. lol
Excellent game so far.
As for performance. The game runs great in DX11 60+fps on max settings at 4K, averaging around 80FPS in most areas, lowest FPS I recall seeing was 57. In DX12 I got dips into the 30s in areas that had crazy lighting with a lot of reflective objects. So for now DX11 is the API to use, maybe DX12 will be optimized down the road.

Both feel fine. Ofcourse mouse and keyboard would be superior because the accuracy of a mouse. But I'm using a controller out of preference on 3rd person games.

Finally got around to redeeming my AMD copy. (They don’t send codes anymore I straight up had to sign into steam in my browser through their link)
Game is still broken on reported VRAM with Vega 64, detects 0.00GB available. And Wattman reports 20GB utilized. Despite that, I can easily push all settings to max (which the game claims is using 12GB VRAM) with a above 60fps experience at 2560x1440.
Beautiful game and I can’t wait to get back home to put far too much time into it.

Controller. I am a nostalgia hoar so I play the controller which is how I played the original RE2, and of course I bought the Deluxe Edition just so I can play RE2 Remake with the soundtrack and sounds effects (in menus) of the original.
Honestly, I vastly prefer controllers for most 3rd person shooters.

Bought the Deluxe Edition, Playing this with the original soundtrack. Amazing feeling walking into the RPD with the original music, felt familiar , yet new. I love that they also included the original Resident Evil sound effects in the menu & inventory

Anyone playing this game with a Dualshock/PS 4 controller on PC? It seems I can only get Xbox button prompts in the game, not PS4 button prompts. At first I thought it was Steam messing up the controller identification because I've had this issue before using my Steam Link in the living room, but I've tried plugging my PS4 controller directly into my PC via USB and it's still not picking it up properly. It works fine and controls the game fine otherwise, it's just annoying that I'm getting the wrong button prompts in game. I figured any newer game, esp. ones that are on consoles, would natively fully support both console's respective controllers on the PC version as well. Any help is appreciated.
BTW I'm trying to play this on my Shield TV in my living room now with Game Stream, which works just like the Steam Link does apparently, where it just streams Steam Big Picture mode to my TV and I can navigate the UI with my controller from there. But it seems that any time I try to go wireless with my PS4 controller, Steam will only detect it as a Xbox controller, which was my original issue with Steam Link before as well. I bought the Deluxe Edition at Green Man Gaming for $52. (If you purchase the Deluxe Edition, you get access to the original soundtrack & sound effects, such as the classic inventory sounds) for this game.
My review: Its totally awesome! If you are a fan of Resident Evil, especially the first three games released on the Playstation many years ago, you will love this game, its familiar, yet new & honestly has set the bar on how a remake should be made from here on out. 10/10

I like the little addition at the beginning of the game that fit into the story from the original, but I remember there being a gun store in the original. I have to work tomorrow, so I didn't want to get too involved, so I'm hoping to see that in the game later. It's not much, but I'm happy so far.

Or you can buy it separately for $3 (same price for all of the other costumes too) in the online store from the main menu, which is what I just did since I got the vanilla game for free with my son's AMD card.

I bought it from Fanatical on sale about a week ago for 20% off.
If RE2 is your favorite, this game is a no-brainer. RE2 Remake is the best remake of any game I've ever played, I can say that with full confidence at this point. Honestly if Capcom did this to RE1, RE3 and RE4, I wouldn't mind not having a "new" RE game for a long time.

There's something horribly wrong with the black levels in this game. It's as if it's running in limited range (16-235) rather than full range (0-255). Areas that should be completely dark look washed out because blacks appear as a dark gray. It's very noticeable on an OLED.

Just watched a YouTube longplay and confirmed what I thought, Kendo gun shop was at the beginningKendo Gun Shop has always been in the original. Its been 20 years I know
but it's not in the remake. You actually play through the scene where you meet Claire at a gas station but when you get into town and get separated you're automatically at the police station, no gun shop.
Deluxe cost $10 more than the base game, the extra content is $3 EACH, except the gun model which is $2. So $10 vs $20 if you wanted everything. Even if you just wanted the costumes going, Deluxe is cheaper.

Yeah, i've noticed the same. It's like the brightness is cranked up even though it isn't. HDR is working because things like fire, etc all have that super bright glow to them, but the blacks don't actually seem black. I know it's not my setup because other games like AC Odyssey, etc all look great with HDR.
The game runs great and looks great otherwise.

theres something going on with the HDR setting. when i first setup the HDR on it, when the game ran for the first time, i was at 3 notches from the left and the thing vanished. i went to recalibrate it later and im at 100% max brightness now, and the object still wont dissapear.

I can;t remember the last time I preordered a game, liked the game, and replayed the game multiple times. It's all I want to play and I've already beaten Leon's and Claire's 2nd story. I hope they remake RE3.
Finished ClaireA/LeonB on normal. Shaved two hours off my initial ~6:30 time with Claire. Some thoughts:
1: Ammo isn't scarce per se, but it can disappear in a hurry if you aren't careful. You REALLY don't want to use anything beyond handgun ammo on Zombies/Dogs if you can avoid it. That being said, despite some really poor ammo management (especially in LeonB), I always had more then enough ammo for bosses. Capcom designed the ammo distribution very well, making sure you always have *just enough* to get the job done but not enough to go out of your way to shoot things. I expect on hardcore you'd have to dodge a LOT more zombies, or at least cripple their movement by shooting at the knees.
2: At least on normal difficulty things aren't overly difficult, though I did die a few times trying to force my way past either Tyrant or those G-Mutants in the sewers.
3: Herb distribution is weird; there's an over-distribution of blue herbs considering the lack of things that can poison you. The Blue+Red herb combo gives some damage mitigation and should be used pretty much every major fight; I had quite a few of those left over at game end.
4: I like that items you've seen in a room but don't pick up show on the map. I also like that you can combine items without having to first pick the item up in your inventory, which makes inventory management (especially herbs) a lot easier.
5: I understand why Capcom went this route, but did Leon *REALLY* need two different handguns? Especially given the scarcity of 9mm ammo in Leon's route; the Matilda really only had ammo at the very end of the scenario when I used my remaining unused gunpowders.
6: No obvious performance issues (8600k/1080Ti) with pretty much everything maxed at 4k. Didn't look at fps, but can't think of a single time where I noticed any performance dips. Only graphical oddity I observed is that it seemed low-res textures would be in-use whenever a character looked at an object zoomed it, before the high-res one would pop in.
7: One minor storyline gripe: At least in ClaireA/LeonB there are events that outright contradict eachother, and it was OBVIOUS. The original also had plot holes, but not nearly to this extent. It felt like lazy writing to be honest.
8: Also, the Tyrants hat is the best part of this game, bar none.

10: I loved they played up "Lickers are blind" in this one, especially given how much more dangerous they are this time. Sure, walking around one is fine, until some Zombies burst through a window or...well, you'll see.
