The DigiTimes report claims that Intel is planning to outsource a good portion of products in 2022 to TSMC's 3nm process...This would allow Intel to compete once again on the strength of their microarchitecture alone and achieve process parity with AMD designs...According to DigiTimes, Intel had already signed a contract with TSMC to outsource production in 2022 when Pat Gelsinger took office...

They are a little late to the party on this one
https://www.trendforce.com/presscenter/news/20210113-10651.html it was announced like 2 weeks ago.

Node size isn't everything - the core design is still paramount for performance. Unless of course you are SEVERAL nodes ahead.

Using TSMC for 3nm would let them implement their horizontal gate all around designs which look awesome if they work as intended. The design would let them almost triple density over the standard finFET designs used by AMD and other chip designers.

So AMD is not in for 4-3nm? I'll bet your ass they are already onboard. TSMC doesn't implement intel node designs. That's not how it works. Node technology is Production VENDOR SPECIFIC. There will not be a large node lead if ever for a long time by either AMD or Intel if INTC keeps going to TSMC.
