I rebuilt my machine this weekend, and I wanted to re-install BF2, BFV, WarcraftIII, etc. I either am missing one or more discs, but have all of the product keys. Anyone know if replacement media is available?

I think what you're looking for is your local Best Buy, EB Games, Fry's, Wal-Mart, etc...

I don't want to purchase a license all over again, I just need the media.

I understand you're missing the media. Where you gonna find the disks? I don't think there's some sort of repository out there with stray media... Ebay is another option.

Go to the publishers' sites and see if they'll send replacements. You might have to shell out $5 or so for each one.

For any of the ea games, just call them up and they will send you a replacement set of discs for $10 (after you prove to them you own the game).

question: in the OPs case, would it be OK to download the game since he already has the key and he did actually buy the game?

Which is absolute crapola. If he does own it, and they are unwilling to supply a replacement for damaged or missing discs. You shouldn't have to re-buy it, maybe pay a tiny replacement fee, but not buy the game outright again.

I'm in a similar situation, where I've got all my BF2 discs, but I'm missing my cdkey. Don't know how to go about attaining a new key without having to keygen it (I don't play online anymore) but, I would rather not keygen it.

I don't mind shelling out $5-$10 to get new media, just not $50

The same applies for missing cd keys, just call up ea and they will walk you through getting a new key (I'm pretty sure the fee is the same).

from EA:

Hello,

Thanks for contacting EA Technical Support. I am sorry to find out that you have lost some game disc.

I am sorry but lost discs are irreplaceable because the warranty policy does not apply. This constitutes general neglect and voids any warranty EA offers on its products. Even if it is one disk from a several-disk set, the warranty policy applies to the software as a whole and can not be replaced if one of the disks is missing.

try to find someone with the game and copy it... end of discussion

Hello,

Thanks for contacting EA Technical Support. I am sorry to find out that you have lost some game disc.

I am sorry but we are a bunch of D-bags and we care so little about you as a customer, that we are unwilling to help you find any sollution to your problem., instead we have sent this email to tell you too bad, so sad. I would suggest you go ahead and download these games, as you already have product keys, and we are not going to work with you to solve your issue, because frankly we dont care.

Dang. It's EA's fault he lost his disk? lol I lost a golf club a while back and I didn't even think to call the manufacturer back to demand a replacement. What a strange, strange world this is. :p

Did I say its EAs fault he lost his disk? Did I infer it? no

The email is clear that EA is not willing to work with the poster, at all, to solve the problem. How would you rate customer service that offers no solution to the problem, hell it does not even say "sorry you will have to go out and purchase the games again"? The email does nothing to provide any means of rectifying the posters situation, and thus it is bad customer support.

The OP didn't demand replacement media, he wanted to know if they would sell him one of the missing discs.

How would you feel if Taylor Made (or whomever you get your golf clubs from) wanted you to buy an entire set of clubs, instead of just selling you the one club you lost?

I have no quarrel with the OP.

we all know that when you buy software, you are mainly paying for the license to run it. The media is the cheapest part of the entire price. Since I have the license, I was only wondering if they would sell the media....I mean come on, it probably cost them not even $1 a disc to burn and print that nice label on the top of it.

The analogies of missing golf clubs and monitors are completely off, and totally different than this this situation.

I would hope that I could just borrow someone's discs and copy them. I used a burned copy of Warcraft III to re install, but when I run the game it says 'Please insert your Warcraft III CD' The thing that kills me is that I've used it before to play, and it worked fine.

It makes sense for companies to sell replacement disks for a slight profit, they only take a few pence to press and deliver so if they can make a buck on it and also please the customer at the same time then great. Same for lost CD keys.

The only loophole that should be avoided is getting the discs for cheap and then getting a CD key for cheap after that, which would result in a cheaper game than if you bought it at the store, not exactly hard to police.

Smartest thing to do is not lose the discs in the first place, that's always a good idea :>

Not really. Though the discs themselves are cheap, the cost to set up and maintain a system to be able to replace customers lost disc would not be cheap. It does not make business sense. EA is in the business of selling games, not to handle problems caused by customers.

We should be responsible for our own actions, or lack of action. Trying to put companies on the hook for it means we do not want to take responsibilites ourselves.

The OP has two alternatives - either to forget about it, or find some way to acquire the media himself. Ebay is great for these situations.

It's your fault the discs are gone, NOT EA's. Sure it'd be nice for them to help out, but they are not going to, and, frankly, I don't see why any company would send you extra discs. It's nowhere in the warranty that they will replace the discs you lost.
