i am looking to replace my 660 non-TI with something from the current gen line-up just a bit better than what i have, either camp is fine, i game at 1080 only at least for the next year or so. looking to crank everything up to "10".

I would suggest either a used 7970 or 280x, should be a nice upgrade and won't cost you much once you sell the 660. If you want to make a big jump though go for the r9 290 but frankly I think that card is pretty overkill for 1080p.

GTX 770. i have one and i game at 1080P and i throw everything up to 10. Have not had a problem with it yet. so it gets my vote.

Go big...780/780ti or 290/290X since you said "1080p only at least for the next year or so." Besides, even if you stay at 1080p (or maybe jump up to 1440p), it'll give some adequate oomph for a higher refresh rate monitor, if you go that route for your next display.

I'd get a used 280x on ebay if I were upgrading at this point. They are going for so cheap now, less than $150. If you want to go up to $250, a used 290 would be awesome.

Reason for 280x and 290 are they are at most 8-10 months old and even with constant mining, the underlying hardware should still be good for years to come. Might want to watch out for the fans going out though, but those are so cheap to replace and it will still be under warranty for a good while longer.
