I've never utilized any remote WAN link monitoring software as of yet however I need to employ one now and I wanted to get some ideas on software and etc.
I have configured a Linux box with Cacti installed but I haven't got to dig into yet and I'm not sure if it will even do what I need yet. Basically I need the following.
Email notification when a WAN link goes down.
Bandwidth usage (graphs not sure how that would work remotely).
Fairly simple needs. Do these tools use PING or SNMP? Anyone have any recommendations on software? Win or Linux.
