I just recently purchased the licenses I needed to upgrade our fleet up laptops from XP Pro SP3 to Windows 7 Pro. The slowest, oldest laptops are Dell latitude D630s, so I know they can all handle W7. My question is this:

I'm pretty sure going right from XP to W7 does require a clean install (despite using an upgrade disc), right? So, if I have a remote user that uses domain accounts, that system will have to be dropped and re-added to the domain during this process. I'm thinking that I'll have to have these computers in house to do this migration process. Am I right to think this? I'm also breaking they "offline folders, My Docs redirection" crap and switching to an online backup service, so it would be nice to be able to do all of this in house at once.

Do it in house, or arrange a swap out, with 1 day before that they cannot use the laptop (so you can setup the email, docs, links, etc)
