Donno if this is the right section to ask this. I bought a Acer AspireRevo (Atom N270+nVidia ION LE, 1GB, 160GB and Windows XP) and set it up in my living room on a wireless bridge and switch (with Slingbox Solo and BD player) as my HTPC. At work I'm on a tethered internet connection through my iPhone on my notebook, not a very fast connection.

I want to use this HTPC so I can access it with remote desktop software (don't wanna use my main computer), I'm alread upgrading OS to Win7, the RAM to 2GB, the harddrive to 500GB and adding an external 1TB HDD to the living room set up. That way I can manage downloads and updates so when I come home they are already on my home network/homegroup.

I'm wondering of LogMeIn Free is a good free solution and if I can remotely wake my HTPC over the net with it?

logmein free works great! I use it for my personal computers.

To use the wake on lan I believe you need to subscribe to logmein pro.

The wake-on-lan feature said it was supported under the free version, would I need to open some ports on my for that to work over the internet? Considering this is an Atom platform I may have no problems keeping this running all day.

I know on my LMI Free account the "Turn On" feature comes onto the machines that support it. However it doesn't work- not sure what's entailed on getting that working.
