Registering A Domain Name That's About To Expire

There is a domain I'm looking to purchase. Currently there is no website there, and hasn't been in a while. This domain is also about to expire. What can I do to secure that I am able to purchase this domain? I would even consider paying for a service to register it for me at the given time/date. Thanks - Ian.

godaddy and many others have domain poaching services. However, they're very hit-or-miss, considering the availability of auto-renewal services.

Because a domain name doesn't have a web site doesn't necessarily mean that it isn't in active use for email, or dns purposes. I have a webpage up as a placeholder - but my email address and machine redirection hangs off my domain name.

Having said that, I went for my domain name because the one I reallllly wanted was taken. I am sitting, ready to sping and poachas soon as it expires
