Is there any way to do this? I have about 4 users on my wifi that are authorized. How could I redirect others to say Burger Kings website. I know I can put a password in place but I think this would be more fun to do :D

Thanks for your help

How is your router supposed to determine authorization without a password? You could setup a MAC filter, though I dont know how that will work without a key.

You cannot redirect users without first providing them internet access (ie letting them connect to your router). Even if you could do this based on a MAC address filter, since you have provided them access to the router in the first place, the redirect would simply only redirect them to the website. They would then be able to use the router/ internet as normal after the redirect takes place.

Get a router that supports both MAC filtering for authentication and Captive Portal for authentication of unrecognized devices. Set up the MACs of your four authorized devices. Then set the "captive portal" redirect address to something more "interesting" for the bandits (burgerking.com is one choice - I can think of more "interesting" video hubs to force them to).

Just use a password? People aren't "stealing" your WiFi if it is sitting there with no security.

So if you leave your front door open I can come on in and take your TV and other valuables?

Thanks dude!

Depending on the router, you should be able to use MAC filtering to limit specific access and even redirect anything that isn't authorized to have access to everything.

Personally, I would probably limit non-authorized devices to always redirect to a specific page.

If you really wanted to be mean, you could auto redirect them to a malware ridden page so if they connect and try to go anywhere, their computer is infected with all kinds of crap.

Of course that wouldn't work if you had friends/family that visit that want to hook up to your wifi.

If you leave your TV in their yard and they use it (You know, like how your wireless signal reaches their yard..), is that stealing? Your analogy is terrible, and a stupid reason to have unsecured wifi. Use WPA2, problem solved.... Or you can wait until you get a letter in the mail because someone from your IP has been downloading child porn or something else illegal...

And don't waste your time with MAC filtering. You can do a scan and see the MAC of all wifi clients in range, then spoof one of them on your machine.

Here's another idea. Set up a capture portal as mentioned before.

Then have a couple different accounts.

You can have the capture portal list the account user/password that you want the unauthorized users to use.

Then have that account auto redirect to a single page and have the account locked to only be able to access that single page.

As for MAC filtering not working.. yeah, it is kinda worthless by itself in combating determined "thieves" .. but if you combine it with other tactics it is going to be a pretty good deterrent for most would be losers.

On my setup I just have WPA2 setup with an easy for me to remember passphrase.

Messing with people can be fun though if you choose to do so.

I got the ASUS RT‑N66U router I'm going to see if it can support capture portal. If the Asus RT-N66U dont support capture portal what routers do you recommend?

Would like to thank everyone for there replies.

If they stole your key or something that would be one thing, but more than likely these are just old folk or similar who also happen to be your neighbors. They are probably just confused and/or don't know what they are doing. I don't see any reason to be a dick to them.

The weird looking neighbor you have... he is using your wifi to download and store his child porn on your computer

I can't believe this is a thread. So those people stealing your wifi, will get redirected, and quickly say well this doesn't work anymore and disconnect. sounds like if this is fun for you, it wont last for very long anyway.

I'll take a look at Ubiquiti. I like the FBI warning page :)
Just a note I'm not doing this to be a dick to anyone I'm only wanting to redirect them to a save site like burger king or Ihop and like mnewxcv said "well this doesn't work anymore and disconnect" and maybe it will not last very long but every time they try guess what only Burger King comes up!
I did something similar when my ex wife was cheating on me. At the time I had Vontage and you could forward a number to a different number (my local Burger King) So I found out his cell number ,home number and any other number he was using to call her and added it to the forwarder. Was I being a dick to this guy? Yes but he shouldnt of been messing around with my wife. Did I harm him in any way? No It was fun to 1 up on him. Look at it any way you want but if I wanted to do worse I would send the to a nasty site. I'm just having a little fun telling them to stop using my wifi.

Dude the other guy was throwing dicks in your wife, I don't think you one upped him with a Burger King redirect.

do they have any printers shared? Could have some fun if so.
