A few days ago my trusty 4 year old 9800 pro crapped out on me and now im on the search for a new vid card. My comp still has a few years left in it and i dont really want to do any major upgrades. My 9800 could play farcry and HL-2 on all the highest settings and i was happy with it. Basicaly im looking for an agp vid card thats comprable or maybe a little better than my old 9800, i would rather keep it around 150 bucks and considering i paid 300 something for it 4 years ago, that dosent seem to unreasonable.

Well if you just want a stop gap card for around $150 that is a bump up in performance from your 9800pro, maybe an X800GTO ?

Seems reasonable. You don't want to spend much when DX10 will be here in 6 months.

yeah, ive never been a big fan of upgrading single components, it only results in a bunch of bottle necks which = a big waste of money since you wont be using what you paid for.

Dont know if this is any help but I had a 9800pro and upgraded to 7900GT 2 months ago and I am very happy with the performance. The 7900GT is a great card for a good price.

When you hear 9800pro in the first post and saying he wants to get a new card - don't even mention ANY PCI-E cards lol. A X800GTO would do the trick. Them 512MB ones.

256mb 9800XT $90
128mb 6600GT $90
128mb 6800NU ( Non ultra ) $90 - $110
256mb X800 Pro $100 - $130
X800XL as low as $125 - $140
6800GT $130 - $150 ( the $150 ones are te BFG 6800GT OC and the Leadtek 6800GT )
X800XT as low as $150
X850 Pro as low as $150

6800 ultra....

I upgraded my 9800pro to a 6800GT and I was very pleased with how Oblivion performed. I'd say a 6800GT/X800GTO or anything higher would do you pretty well.

Oh no, something new is coming out in six months, that means I can't buy anything now!

I can see waiting for DX10 if you're building a new computer, but if you're upgrading an AGP computer...

Haha! He's right. Both nVidia and ATI refresh their graphics card lineups about every 6 months, so even if you wait til a DX10 card, 6 months later they'll upgrade something else...
