My brother is looking for a high-end fondleslab.

Max weight sans keyboard ~1 Kg, Detachable keyboard. 8+ GB RAM, Windows 7/8 x64, MS Office, video output for presentations, 2-3 USB ports. 6+ hours battery life. It must run some very specialist software so Android and Mac are not possible platforms.

The Lenovo Thinkpad Helix hits every mark apart from the RAM.

I would recommend a LAPTOP over at ablet ANY DAY OF THE WEEK.

Tablets are high priced toys, no replaceable batteries, basically disposable and cost as much as a mid range to high end laptop.

Laptops are far more powerful, far more flexible than any tablet on the market.

Even a 300 dollar laptop will run circles around a tablet any day of the week.

Having played with several tablets, laptops also offer a larger screen and a keyboard is always much better to interact with.

My suggestion is look at some laptops, you will get far more bang for your buck than you would with any tablet currently on the market.

Based on the specific demands and uses that you've put forth, I would also encourage looking into your original idea of getting an 8gb Helix.

Present day, we're looking at 1st-gen tablet/ultrabook fusion devices. If you and your brother are able to wait, 2nd-gen tablet/ultrabook fusion devices will be significantly better: lighter in weight, better in battery life, equally powerful computing power, and a larger selection of devices to choose from.
