Since my Klipsch Ultras are hissing I'm looking at all options to replace them. A lot of the people on this forum are suggesting getting a HTIB solution. That seems fine but I have one problem with it.

On my 2nd computer I have an Audigy 2 ZS hooked up to the receiver I use for movies via coax. I noticed that the receiver doesn't recognize the 5.1 signals from the sound card and only works in stereo. Which has been fine since I only really use it for music.

So if I get a HTIB and hook my sound card to it how can I make sure I get the 5.1 surround while playing games? (both computers have an Audigy 2 ZS) If I get a X-Fi and use the optical well that pass a 5.1 signal from games the receiver can understand?

Optical only has bandwidth for 2 channel pcm. That's why. Either you need a sound card that can compress 6 channel sources into Dolby Digital Live (which you don't) or have a video card that can do 8 channel pcm hdmi audio (which would be the ATI 5000 series).

Thanks.

I did research after making that post and ordered sound cards that support DDL.

Any difference in SQ of 2-channel PCM over optical/coax versus DDL?
