The very popular Pokemon Go AR game is adding something different to the mix when it comes to spawning Pokemon. Your local weather will now impact the spawns and Niantic is hoping this will make people go outside to play in all kinds of weather. For example, if it's raining you can expect more water Pokemon to spawn, and those that come out due to weather are going to start off stronger than they normally would be. The different spawns will really liven up the game. However, I'm not a Pokemon Go player so I don't know if most will like it or not, but this sounds like some pretty cool stuff to me. I bet Niantic see's a good increase in play going forward.

Beyond being a neat mechanic for an AR game, it’s a clever way for Niantic to chip away at a problem: the colder it gets, generally, the fewer people go outside and play. Now that PoGo is weather-aware, they’re able to flip the problem on its head and incentivize playing when the weather looks bleak.

In before parents suing Niantic because Little Johnny went out in a flood and drowned trying to get a Troutstor.

Fantastic concept. I was really hoping these games that make use of GPS coordinates would take off but sadly only Niantic seems to be succeeding at it. I use succeeding loosely as their customer base is super small compared to what it used to be.

Yes, I too would love to walk around in the rain and cold!

Wait. No I wouldn't. Never mind.

    People still play this??

When we go downtown on the weekend for dinner and coffee, nobody is seen playing this anymore. A year ago the benches and areas around gyms were packed. Now? Nobody. I quit playing fall of last year. Just not fun.

hmm. so I see an issue, being as where I live is extremely cold for quite a long time, most every year. I expect watching ice type pokemon fight each other would be about as exciting as watching two resto druids fight in original world of warcraft.

All it take is one dumb move like this to ruin a game.

Wait.. people still play this? I got into it at the beginning, and even got the kids into it, but due to Houston August/September heat it didn't last too long. We had a slight resurgence in the family around Halloween of that year when they increased the spawn rates and types for "spooky" pokemon. After that it fell off our radars and then got removed from the phones.
My biggest issue with it was it being based on user activity for spawn rates. If I'm going to be outside.. I want to be out hiking or walking on the nature trails.. not going to city park, Disneyworld, or the mall. There's only so many pidgeys and ratattas I can stand to collect in the neighborhood. We took a trip out to a little resort with log cabins and stuff and there was a whopping 1 pokestop. They also took out the option for drive by pokestop swiping, so we were constantly running out of pokeballs.

Considering we are moving from a 450-acre subdivision to an approximately 100-home one... I doubt we will be playing again. Adding adjustments for weather just doesn't peak my interest.

I think I "played" this game for about 15 minutes before I got bored. Drove around town a bit, didn't really find anything interesting, uninstalled.

Similar thought - I was thinking an F4 tornado, or a Cat 5 Hurricane!!! Yikes.

True but you could also play the 3DS Pokemon games which are even better.

Probably makes for some super rare monsters that spawn in Texas or Mexico only when it snows. For kicks, maybe an Uber snow monster that spawns closer to the equater only when it snows. Can't get it any other way.

Glad I don't play this game. I'd have more fun hacking fake GPS signals.

This pokeymon only comes out during "high wind" conditions. Sure it's a category 5 hurricane spawning F4 tornado's faster than Trump can post stupid shit to Twitter.. but you could get a REALLY rare wind pokemon.

Correct but keep in mind that A.R. is arguably one of the lamest aspects of Pokemon Go. I always disable A.R. when I play it. And this is coming from somebody who is mainly a 3DS/Vita gamer that is quite familiar with A.R. games.

Yeah, I turned the AR off immediately. More than half the time it didn't even work, and when it did it was completely underwhelming.

I wish it wasn't locked down so much.
Originally I could play it on an android emulator on my PC and I could adjust the GPS location to go anywhere I wanted.
Much nicer playing it in the comfort of my home instead of wandering all over the place :D

It would be glorious if the game said a Mew was below some random dudes pickup truck. I'm sure someone else here was duped by that in the original games. :D

I quit playing a long time ago, mostly because they kept lowering the max speed until it was too slow for me to get any credit on my bike. Hell, you can't even jog at a decent pace and get credit anymore. I understand they are trying to keep people from driving and playing, but its gotten ridiculous.

My problem is with the Gyms. If you just play casually like me and my kids did, they got too difficult. Too many levels to take out a Gym and they were too high level. Ruined it. Like all games like this. The diehard players wipe out most of the casual base, and the game dies.
