The very popular Pokemon Go AR game is adding something different to the mix when it comes to spawning Pokemon. Your local weather will now impact the spawns and Niantic is hoping this will make people go outside to play in all kinds of weather. For example, if it's raining you can expect more water Pokemon to spawn, and those that come out due to weather are going to start off stronger than they normally would be. The different spawns will really liven up the game. However, I'm not a Pokemon Go player so I don't know if most will like it or not, but this sounds like some pretty cool stuff to me. I bet Niantic see's a good increase in play going forward.
Beyond being a neat mechanic for an AR game, it’s a clever way for Niantic to chip away at a problem: the colder it gets, generally, the fewer people go outside and play. Now that PoGo is weather-aware, they’re able to flip the problem on its head and incentivize playing when the weather looks bleak.
