Re-streaming audio (and video) - if this is even possible?

Is it possible for a server to grab a video/audio stream and re-stream it? If so, what software would need to be running on the server and where can I go to find some material to read up? I have no idea what this process is even called so am in a bit of a pickle... Thanks!

Depends if you need to transcode as well, if not then windows media services (included with windows server) will act as a distribution node for re-streaming (assuming you are using Windows Media Format)

What exactly are you trying to re-stream? Some media servers can for instance grab a hulu/netflix stream and then send it to other computers/extenders? I'm not too sure what you're asking.
