Razer Ripped Off at CES 2017

You all realize they never said the 3 screen laptop was stolen, but poor sentence structure on the front page news blurb implies that it was.

Maybe Apple decided to rip off some of your design decisions for a change instead of you just ripping off all their designs lol

Also, Razer's mice quality leave much to be desired. I wouldn't be surprised if their laptop was just as shoddily made.

Maybe some Loctite on the screws would help?

The screws come with loctite on them from the factory. Doesn't stop the plastic from squishing or the screws from coming loose. Also doesn't help that the parts are made of aluminum. Could be that the stress being put on the threads is stretching them as well.

Tightening them down like you want to break them seems to work pretty well though.

Loctite comes in many grades though, ranging from extremely light (red, I think) which is no tougher than sugar water to some shit which os essentially two part epoxy resin and is never coming off :p

Maybe aaftermarket application of a heavier grade of loctite would help?

FOUND.. at least one of them..

No sign of Steve or the other Razer.. Wow.. he keeps a pretty tidy, clean garage for the [H] Camaro and massive collection of porn.. I mean.. DVDs/video games!!

While I don't like Razer, I dislike criminals more. Regardless, this is kind of funny.

While I have had 2 razer mice go dead on me a decade+ ago, I must say their Taipan mouse I've been using the past 3 years has been rock solid and going like a champ. Only reason I'm considering getting a new mouse soon is because the glide pads under neath will only last another 6-8 months estimated.

But yeah, I hear ya.

And nothing of value was lost.

I have a Razer laptop that I like okay (mostly because it's basically a Windows Macbook Air) but I've had multiple Razer mice/keyboards and they've all been garbage.

But what happens when you need to disassemble the laptop to repair it? You can't use the super high strength stuff or else you would end up either stripping the head of the screw or messing up your screwdriver.

The stuff that comes from the factory is of the blue variety.

I was working a booth for our Metals 3D Printers at the RAPID show in Long Beach a couple of years ago. There were a few open tables across from us displaying a 3D Printed Contemporary Art Gallery. On the second day I was talking to a couple of guys from 3M about melt pools and material types for whatever application, when I noticed a guy slowly walk up to a piece and slip it into his backpack. At first I thought he was working the show, then I saw him tuck his "Student" badge under his shirt. He took off in a brisk walk towards the door so I followed him, flagging every security person I could see on the way out. They stopped right before he hit the exit. He was very apologetic for attempting to steal a piece of art valued in the 5 figure range. I think he said he was stealing it for his girlfriend. What struck me is that Security let him go without calling the police or the actual owner of the artwork. One lady said to me "No harm, no foul.".

Having worked plenty of shows, I'm surprised that no one locked those laptops up after closing. Seems reckless. HP made us lock up our shitty 800 dollar Pavillons at every show we attended.

Oh... Here is the art work that he attempted to steal.

It was Young King Agamemnon’s Rocking Horse.

Interesting. But I thought this was another "thermaltake ripped off someone else's design" issue. Hah

Yeah, I'm not recommending going all the way into the crazy strength stuff.

Just maybe a grade or two above the blue stuff.

They updated the facebook post.

"This update is to confirm that two Razer Project Valerie laptop prototypes were stolen from the Razer booth at CES. The product was taken from the Razer press room at approximately 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 8, 2017. A $25,000 reward is being offered for original information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of a criminal suspect."

So it was the laptops that were stolen.

I think it's totally stupid for someone to take those prototypes. It looks like they barely worked. If you saw the linus video about it, they did not let him touch the one with the desired hinge design, because it was too fragile. They likely did not do any load/analysis testing on it and it was an early printed prototype for show. the sliding hinge one probably worked more so, but honestly it was probably so unpolished, why bother? it is highly unlikely that a company went after it, because there is no groundbreaking engineering behind adding another 2 screens. Sure, razer could have started working on some proprietary dpi scaling software, but seriously, any software designer could design that. It was stated it was likely stolen after show hours. It could have been some underpaid cleaning staff that took it for personal gain. who knows. It is just very disheartening that someone would do something so underhanded.

New tri-screen discounts notebooks coming from China in 3... 2...

Don't see why they would need to steal it. They more than likely already have all the details on it, cause they're the ones making it.

Someone's ready for the end times. I have a lot of razer products but nothing they've showed actually interested me. But the only thing stolen were the projector-laptops. In a world that's probably moving towards VR instead of something that Xbox already thought of and showed off a little while ago in 2013... IllumiRoom. The only difference is that Razer (probably) intends on releasing it for buying.

It makes more sense on for a console implementation as most console players are going to be sitting far enough to take advantage of the peripheral vision that's the projector's selling point. On a PC, only HTPC owners that game would make use of it.

Next up from blue(semi perm) is the red(perm), which requires a cutting torch to get the fastener hot enough to break it free.
There is at least one grade under the blue, and it isn't designed for torque holding.

Ok so if I steal something and put it to China for sale, Chinese stole it?

Well they certainly wouldn't care enough to not sell it. As we all know the majority of fake and counterfeit items are made in China. They don't give a fuck about intellectual property. but I guess that's what communism does to places :D

More than likely an inside job. Almost always is. Someone got paid a lot of money to let the Chi-Coms have it.

Ah, my bad. Thanks for clarifying.

I recall there being many more levels, but it's been a LONG time since I looked into it for a project I was working on. (15+ years)

They have some specialized products for certain metals and thread types as well. Never had a use for those, however

Ya know, this tri screen one is gimmicky, but if someone came out with a smaller laptop that had 2 13" (or 15") 1080p screens, I'd be so down.

The hardest part of working mobile for me is the transition to less real estate. But it also has to be mobile and not 12lbs.

What might be a cool product is having a science-project-like bifold, where you open the lid and then unfold two half screens (one to each side, so each wing panel would be 960x1080p). Keeps the form factor down and the weight distribution even.

How do we know this isn't all a publicity stunt by Razer to draw attention to it's new product! We can't rule that possibility out after all! ;)

Same here my productivity drops on portable pretty much in line with screen size with cellphones being like 8x slower than me using my PC... laptops maybe 1.5-2x slower due to realestate and task switching. 1440p is minimum I find though for decent productivity, 1080p is not enough for single screen. 4K 40"+ here I come this year... now that's a productivity beast.

Someone will steal their design for frag-harder dipshit lights that can do 257 colours! OH NO!

I will never forget the raid on the VIA Booth at Quakecon 2004 I think.. I had to drag that Vaporchill System from Australia and it was wrecked...

I don't think this setup will do well. Lenovo had a thinkpad w700ds with dual screens

Anyone seen the latest news. One of the stolen laptops appear in China for sale!
