Kyle Please start up the Ratpadz XT again. I'm a longtime Logitech G500 user and recently discovered that there probably just isn't a surface for this sensor that tracks better than the Ratpadz. I'm getting into hardcore gaming again after a long break (years) and looking to game competitively with this mouse and kinda need this surface. I've tried like 5 different surfaces (even HDPE textured sheets) and none of them performs like my XT. I guess it's because their texture just isn't quite as grained and detailed like my XT is. It's so real that I'm using the bottom of the pad (which has a limited tracking area due to the engraving in the middle) because the top is worn so I can truly enjoy the tracking with my G500 and G9X. I'd buy like 20 of those things if they were available right now. Kyle, Please... Bring Back the GOATPADZ XT!

Probably the Skypad but it's an expensive risk for me. So far the Ratpadz is the best tracking pad for laser mice it seems.

Looked at mine and it's still in nice shape, but has a slight warp in the middle. Not really noticeable lying flat but may heat it up a little to try and correct it. Amazing how they hold up though. Using a Razer LED pad atm. (Goes with my PC theme lol) :woot:

Yea all mines seem to warp as well. Tracking was still perfect as long as the texture was intact.

Any chance Kyle has seen this post? Does he have a profile on these forums to be tagged?

The last of the Ratpadz Kyle had were sold off years ago. If I'd had spare cash at the time I would have bought a few more. The only way you'll get a Ratpadz XT now is to buy one off someone else as they haven't been made in many years and all remaining stock was depleted several years ago.

Just remember that Kyle was able to do it with knowledge of the plastics industry. If you could find out what that plastic is, it could be purchased and used in the same way by the sheet.

From images it looks a lot like the ABS sheets used for thermaforming. I used to use a chunk of plastic laminate (AKA countertop/formica/wilsonart) that I picked up from a local supplier when that was how countertops were made. It was very slick surface to move over, and I cut it big so that I could set my mouse with a low sensitivity to give me a lot of granular control over aiming. I started with a black one that looked really nice, but the mouse "skipped" a lot so I tried a speckled off-white one that worked the best with the sensors.

Rumor has it he still haunts these forums (but mainly focuses on mobile gaming and office furniture). If you can convince the old codger to restart his RatPadz factories, you'd become a folk hero to the [H] community.

And it still is not that simple...there was a lot more than composition that went into "doing it right."
Very true. The resulting texture is where the secret sauce is. I'm going to see if any HDPE plastic company will accept a special request where I send them the ratpad and they mimic the texture on the bottom.

For the Ratpadz XT, we only used plastic made in a specific plant with a specific set of rollers. Had to buy in very large quantities to get that reassured.

yea this was my main concern when even bothering to contact a company. Sounds like you were apart of the Ratpadz team. Is there a chance maybe you can get in Kyle's ear in hopes of another run?
Yeah. Used to work closely with him, but then he got sober and I like my hookers and blow way too much to be letting him kill my buzz all the time. But I can still pass a message along. I know someone close to his congregation.

Still have three of them, unused, because I don't use a mouse. I think the flames are original and the plain black is an XT (FrgMstr would know).

You would be correct. Flames is the first edition. The middle one was second revision. The Ratpadz XT had no printing on the front. Getting screening to stick to that surface is not a cheap process. We changed the edge design on the XT as well. I have actually been looking into starting this back up, but I am having problems sourcing USA made materials that can guarantee surface continuity and flatness of the product to do larger custom sized surfaces.

I would absolutely buy a few of these. The one I had outlasted I think 3-4 computers.

My power coated PEI beds for 3d printers really remind me of the ratpadz texture

FrgMstr and Old Bennett go way back, if there's anyone that can convince him - it's him.
