Just FYI, I think this is pretty warm seeing as its cheaper than getting it shipped. I was going to order one before I found them at Microcenter and it was going to be close to $50 after shipping.

News about them if you need it.

I went and picked one up myself on Saturday. Marietta Ga location. Mine was just in a white box, but one of my coworkers went and got one that was in a Element14 box.

Edit: This is what I am doing with mine tonight. http://www.raspbmc.com/download/

Can it run Crysis?
Bleh, that is getting old.. :-P
This is cool though!

They are about 43 shipped from Newark.com so depending on tax, not sure which one is better. Although newark usually has a "TAKE15" coupon that's 15% off the entire order.

I just bought mine from amazon for $45 shipped. I think this is pretty warm, would be HOT if the santa clara store was still open for me to pickup locally. Im so bitter about them closing that location haha

I thought these sold for $35(or $25), why pay more? Or is the $35 the wholesale price and $40 is retail?

making an htpc with this is ''easy''? really? i want it to be easy"

stupid easy, pre-built package available for raspbmc - takes less than 30 minutes to get it up & running. Just make sure you buy the codecs ;)

Can it bitstream? Will it stutter trying to playback 50GB bluray .iso's or is this just for playing back smaller .mkv rips / compressed data

Very cool, might have to stop and pick one up from that same MC.

Can this play x264 files over wireless? Its about time to buy another TV and need another device to play ripped stuff from.

I'd be surprised if it could do this... I have my overclocked just to run smoothly through my large movie collection. It does smaller vids fine over wireless though.

can you tell me more about your setup for wireless ? cost overall?

Oh, I just found it. Does anyone have experience with RasPlex?
http://rasplex.com/

havent used rasplex but I use raspbmc on mine. It works just like it does with my appletv2. I have everything running off of a class 10 sd card and dont really get much slowdowns. I use this with my mkv rips ~15-20gb. No stuttering or slowdowns over wired and have not yet tried wireless

I did it runs off the sd card (much slower vs. raspbmc install via a usb stick) but it does looks great, they pretty much ported the windows PLEX app to the raspberry. However, it is slowwwwwwww as a snail I couldn't get anything to stream via my linux server running plex media server. I have zero problems streaming to my raspberryPi with raspbmc via samba share folders or using plex media server DLNA to a wester digital live box or a LG 60 inch LED tv. You're better off sticking to the raspbmc for the moment.

Good to know. Thanks guys.

I just finished installing raspbmc, very easy, a few reboots and it updates itself and then the addons, up and running in under 20 min.

These are awesome for XBMC and if your TV has CEC via HDMI you can use your TV remote to control it so no need for for a IR receiver. Also, if you use an SD card a class 10 will give you better performance. I tried a class 4 and it was ok, but the class 10 was much better.

Does microcenter sell the power supply?

I am sure they have something, from what I read you need 5v with at least 700ma. I am using one with 5v 1amp and it works fine, probably better for using some external usb stuff too.

I'm about to order one, can they handle a small USB hub to add more ports?

I plan to get the WiPi and use my wireless K&M with it and didn't know if I would really need any extra ports for USB, but it would be nice to use for storage and other future projects.

Yes, you can use a USB hub.

im sure you would have something around your house. I found a old LG usb phone charger and it works great. I was using the charger for my iphone for a little bit as well. The LG is a 5.1v 800ma, when I checked the voltage on the pi its at 4.85v

or incrediblepi if you want a lightweight asterisk setup for your home.

This plus a vpn is a perfect match for tmobile's $30 100min 5gb prepaid plan. I've found 100 minutes to generally be enough when on the go, so I only do voip over hspa for outgoing calls when I know it's going to be a long one.

Log hundreds of voip minutes a month.

Employing a vpn server gets around the tether upsell message if it happens.

Thing pays for itself in no time

After seeing this I googled to see how to make this a MythTV frontend. I see there are packages available..

And it's been working well for me for months now...

Small USB hubs? f$#k a whole bunch of that. Go big or go home is what I say. I use a frigging Mondo hub (28 USB Ports)

At first I thought that was the "Thriftshop" music video, then realized you were watching Sanford and Son, lol :)

I'm from memphis so ALL our OTA digital TV channels have Sanford & Son, lol. That and preachers saying we've never been closer to the end times than right frigging now!
