Rasberry Pi Compute Module On A DDR2 SODIMM

Just had a geekout with one of our devs. He's very, very interested in this little thing. I see no mention of a release date though. :/

I plead ignorance. Why? Whats the advantage/point?

The reason for the seperate board is that not all Pi uses are for building little one processor machines - some people want to build clusters and the existing board is not well suited to that.

The reason for the DIMM form factor is that it provides a standard connector and attachment system that builders can buy from anywhere (or really the factory they contract can source those parts from their existing supply chain).

I need more time in the day to play with the raspberry PI's I have now. I keep buying all these little boards and the sit here and collect dust

Cheaper upgrades and lower overall cost of manufacture. More GPIO pins. New SOC, Ram and more Storage is a matter of swapping out the Dimm board instead of the entire unit.
