Team voice really helps in R6. You need to know what's going on. I've mostly had a good experience with it, though occasionally I've muted a player because they were obnoxious. These clips sound pretty bad but it's hardly unique to R6. I've had griefers and tk'ers and toxic people in just about every online game.

A lot of people cannot handle a loss. I often picture that old video of the german kid screaming and smashing his keyboard the way some of these people go off during or after a match.

All games should have at least a modicum of ability to handle this kind of crap. It's true that it isn't just women that get harrassed, but it appears that she was getting a bigger shovel-full of the shit.. Regardless, the game should have some sort of way to handle it... they've just all been lazy about it up till now.

Why is it too much to ask for people to just police their own activity? You don't have to use chat with strangers. No one is forcing that.
Why does someone else always have to fix all the problems of these people?
Clans? They aren't new. If all these women are mad at brospeak - form a clan of like minded people - problem solved.
We sure as hell don't need the government or advocacy groups to get involved. Game vendors only need to get involved as far as providing better tools for matchmaking and filtering interactions.
Sadly many of these people don't want to solve problems - problems give them a platform to make noise. If you disagree then your a bigot, racist, sexist or whatever other broad brush they can paint you with
If he kept engaging her and she didn't have the tools in the game to stop it, then that's a deficiency that the game needs to address and if they don't then just stop playing games with shitty controls.

I turn off voice chat on any game I play publicly. I don't wanna hear anything from people I don't know. If there's a game where I couldn't disable voice, I simply will not play it. Nothing worse than hearing some high pitched whiny kid fighting with another grown-ass man.

That is how I am now. Text or voice I usually just shut off because there is nothing valuable coming through anyones. Usually someone losing their mind or blasting music because they think we all want to hear it.

So after thinking a bit about what game devs could do to combat this sort of crap, and other obnoxious shit like some jackass blaring some shitty music in a server full of people, is a few things:
ignore list for both text chat and voice, can be separate lists or the same. While someone is on voice ignore, anything they transmit gets time delayed a few seconds and played back to them (only). So if they start cussing, yelling, blaring shitty music, it all just plays back at themselves. Text ignore it is never shown and is permanent, and applies to all channels. The voice ignore can be for the match only or permanent.
If 2 or more players voice ignore someone in the same match, they get a global mute for the remainder of the match to everyone else in the game with them.
Something along those lines. Not hard to implement, but it needs to be easy to find in the UI.

IMHO games should have the ability to mute someone and add players to a block list that you don't want to be place in matchmaking with anymore. Outside of that players should be expected to have developed the ability to cope with occasional "Toxicity". At the end of the day you have a bunch of hormonal teenagers playing an aggressive murder simulator. Less than civil behavior should not be shocking to anyone lol.
Players whine that they are going to leave the game because the community is "toxic", but in all honesty they won't find better elsewhere. It's like finding a new drug dealer because your last one was selling drugs to a bunch of drug addicts.
If you really want to fix things, bring dedicated servers back and let the community go back to policing itself. Unfortunately this means players have to go back to scouring for decent servers which most people won't be willing to do. A hybrid system would probably work wonders for the gaming community but devs don't want to release their control.

This is exactly my gripe with modern gaming. WTF happened server lists that allowed me to sort ping, or player count? When TF2 moved to matchmaking, that's what killed it for me. Thanks for starting this trend Blizzard; I'm looking at you, SC2.
Yes, I know you can still look up server lists online and connect manually through console, but that's more work than giving someone the list integrated into the interface.

Are you not able to individually mute and ignore players in Rainbow Six? That would be dumb if you can't. That kind of thing has been in multiplayer games for decades at this point.
The short answer is Consoles happened. Once online gaming became a "service" with xbox live, dedicated server's just weren't viable. Paying customers weren't going to sort through that mess (especially console plebs).
It also allowed Devs to keep their games alive longer buy cramming people together rather than leaving them spread across thousands of servers.

I disagree. The average lifespan of a multiplayer game is 3-6 months these days for peak player numbers. Call of Duty 4 is 11 years old and still active on PC due to the dedicated servers.
True. People need to research the internet rules "There are no girls on the internet" and "Tits or GTFO" as they still apply today. Your gender doesn't allow any special privilege on the internet as hard as they try to fight it.
I tried to play CoD 4 Several years ago and there was nothing but hundreds of servers full of bots. The server browser looks promising, but it was impossible to find a real match.
I did say that dedicated servers are the solution to Toxic communities so don't think I'm against them. I just think a new hybrid method is needed instead of straight reverting back to the 'good ole days'.
I'm on siege a lot and all the females I run into have been a positive experience. What I don't understand is, if you play with a female gamer, consider it your lucky day instead of harassing them and turning it into a sausage fest. The females I play with bring a different dynamic and are better team players at times. Ubi needs to enforce sexual harassment because this shit doesn't fly when you're in the real world in the job place.

That does seem like a really good solution.
When I played PUBG for about a month in September or so of 2017, I did something similar myself.
Logged on for the first time, and while hanging out at the plane waiting for the round to begin, my first thought was "holy fuck this trolling voice spam is obnoxious".
I signed off immediately, figured out how to disable global voice chat, and the game was immediately 500 times more enjoyable.

I think it is kind of disingenuous for people to say she should just grow thicker skin. Comments like these every now and then can be annoying, but you put up with them. The constant barrage must get old pretty quickly though. When I ran some of the largest public CS servers on the east coast 15-20 years ago one of our regulars was a girl, and I was astonished how much shit she got from the other players because of it. I had to persuade quite a lot of players that they should keep their shit to themselves or find another server to play on.
In the end, the real problem is the mindset of the trolly teenagers constantly trying to get a rise out of people. These kids need to find another way to amuse themselves than picking on others. I don't know how you change that though. The most effective change would likely be for there to just be more girls in games. That way they will be less of a novelty, and hopefully won't draw the attention of the worst among us anymore.

I love Siege for PC because that is exactly the opposite of what happens. The only way to win at high level play is through teamwork and coordination. Having 1 player clutch the round is nearly impossible unless everyone else is a moron.
Those John Rambo players may do well against new players, but they will eventually discover that Siege is not the kind of game to have that mentality.

Which raises a good point.
I think online gaming was better back before random matchmaking and official servers.
Back then you were forced to find a community run server, and be a decent human being on that server, or find yourself banned by admins who were probably on there playing themselves all the time, so they heard what was going on.
Now with official corporate run servers with no admins in sight, and random strangers no one cares about whether or not they are rude or mean to, there is a complete environment of impunity.
Unfortunately that train has sailed, but you're right and that's exactly why I said to use the tools available. There's honestly no benefit to enduring toxicity; even if it's going to hinder your teamplay because you can no longer hear the person, well, it wasn't effective communication in the first place.
Best time I ever had in gaming was playing on community TF2 servers - we had one of the biggest operations going and didn't tolerate any of the nonsense you see in this video. In fact we stated up front in our rules that sexual harassment of any kind wouldn't be tolerated, and we had tons of females that were "regulars" because of it. Douchebags eventually found themselves banned for one reason or another. Unfortunately even Valve largely killed their community servers in favor of "quick play" and later "casual mode."

I feel exactly the same way about my time from ~1999 to 2005 running CS servers, and my time from ~2011 to late 2015/early 2016 some time being part of a "clan" that ran the top public Red Orchestra 2 servers. Nothing beats a well run, well moderated community server. It's almost as if when people feel the social pressures of actually knowing the people they play with, they behave themselves
It's really a shame that this has been sacrificed to the convenience of automatic matchmaking.
Even in games that retain community servers in addition to official ones, it's nowhere near what it used to be like. Because people aren't forced to seek out community servers, they usually do the lazy thing and just auto-matchmake, leaving most community servers empty.
It's a shame.

Edit: also, they can do all they want to 'encourage players to curb it' but it won't work. I dunno. To me this is a feature, not a bug. You get to frag people who annoy you. Sounds good to me. Can't do that in the real world, so this is a great release.
