I volley of new AMD CPUs are coming:

5800X3D - $450 Extensively covered on other threads
5700x - $300 Basically a 5800X price cut
5600 - $ 200 Same as to the 5600X
5500 - $160 6/12, (updated info) could be interesting, maybe a 1600 AF replacement.
4600g $154 - Seen before as the OEM 4650g
4500 - $130 6/12 Renoir same as above, w/o igpu
4300 - $100 4/8 Renoir, maybe around 3300x performance.

So thoughts on pricing? Which one has you the most interested.

For myself, I am interested in getting a 6/12 APU for my crusty ASRock B-350 itx so I can just get rid of my GPU.

5800X3D, if I can find one. I did buy a 12700K but the DDR4 board I want doesn't exist in the U.S. at all.

Instead of dumping $350 into DDR5 + Mobo, I'll get a nice X570 board to use with my existing 4x8GB DDR4 kit. It makes sense in my head. :ROFLMAO:

Updated information:

Looks like the 5500 is actually a 6/12 part. Looks to be a 5600 with half the cache but still twice as much as a 4600g. This could be an outstanding performance/$ CPU and had me reconsidering my choice.

Was super interested in the 5800X3D but the pricing is a huge turn-off. Picked up a 5900x for $400 at MC instead.

So the 5500 is likely a 5600g Cezanne without the igpu. Should still be a good performer for the dollar and alot in nicely between the 12100 and 12400 Intel CPUs.

Right now, 8 times as many people are willing to spend $450 for the 5809x3d than there are people willing to spend $300 on a 5700x. Must be a lot of high fps gamers here!

$150 is relatively minor in the grand scheme of high-end PC upgrades. The 5800X 3D is likely to be the last AM4 CPU so why not upgrade to it and know you have the best CPU for your platform (even if gaming performance isn't much different) while you wait for the new GPUs to come out? I'm tempted to just grab the 5950x at $550 to replace my 3700x even though I'll never make full use of it but I'm trying to resist long enough to see how the 5800X 3D's actually is performance-wise.

The 4600g seems like an interesting low cost upgrade alternative for my fanless HTPC (currently mini-itx x470 with 2400g). I do have an extra mini-itx b350 which could use the old 2400g as well. I do have a 5800x and 5900x in my main and secondary so problably won't upgrade either of those until late 2023 or early 2024 (DDR5 must mature properly first).

My ASRock AB350 does not show support for the Renoir APUs, but all of their B450s do. I reached out to ASRock to see if they have a bios available for my board.

I am lucky enough to be near a Micro Center. They have the 5600X for $209.99 and the 5800X at 299.99 right now. The 5600 and 5700x pricing makes no sense. I think Micro Center will have slightly lower prices that what is listed above, and they are typically lower, but we have to just wait and see how this all works out.

With any thread involving price, it was only a matter of time before we got Micro Center peacocking. For the 90%+ outside of Disneyland, the 5600 and 5700x prices are still very good while only being down 100-200 mhz from their older brothers.

Agreed. While I too can drive to MC 20 minutes away, they have literally no impact on the vast majority of customers.

OK, Newegg prices then.
5600X is 228.98 so the 5600 saves about $29. That may be worth the savings but of course we need to see benchmarks.
5800X is $349.98 so the 5700X saves about $50. This sounds great at first, but there may be a small catch. The 5700X is listed as a 65W part where the 5800X is 105W. The base clock on the 5700X is 400 Mhz lower than the 5800X. There may be a significant speed difference during gaming. Those who don't want to roll the dice on overclocking and tweaking might just want to splurge and spend the extra $50 to get the higher clock speeds out of the box. We need to see benchmarks to see how it turns out.

First, energy prices are not getting any lower so that 40w of savings may be attractive to many should performance be only slightly limited.

Second, TDP gets thrown out the window for mid range and higher end motherboards anyhow.

Last, the 5800X3D at $150 more is likely a bigger gamble it seems if overclocking is your thing:

before all these announcements I thought the 5800x should drop to $300. To me it is very close to a i5-12600k which is $300. My guess is those recent $349 sale prices for the 5800x will now be the default price. There is too much of a price gap between the 5600x and 5700x

Even more CPUs planned from AMD through April.
Added below are:
5700 - 8/16 Cezanne ($260??)
5100 - 4/8 Cezanne ($110??)
4700 - 8/16 Renoir ($240??)

So now we will have Renoir, Cezanne, and Vermeer in Desktops. Renoir is closer in performance to Cezanne than Cezanne is to Vermeer.

That said, I am thinking the higher core parts will always be more expensive (ie 4700 should still be more expensive than a 5600) granted no igpu involved.

AMD was late on the price drops, that's for sure. So this is indeed a welcome addition.

While it seems redundant to have the 5700x when they could have dropped 5800x, it is not nearly as much if a cluster as the 1800x/1700x/1700 goober pricing.

About damn time we get non-X 5600. 5600X has been on sale lately but not globally, there hasn't been an official price cut yet that I know of.

I was waiting to see if I could get a 5600X for my Asrock B350 board, but it doesn't look like they'll be releasing a bios that unlocks Zen 3 for the B350 line (They've already done it for the X370 boards). I settled for an R7 3800X from an R7 1700X. Performance is still very good.

Could well be that they have lots of chips that have 8 working cores, but cant do 5800x speeds so they just release a new chip instead of throwing them away.

Yeah Microcenter brought back the $299 5800Xs so I grabbed one seeing the new cache model is expected to sell for $449, run hot as f, etc. I gotta get this 5700G into a X300W ASAP too as I've been using it for a bit now when I sold my new RMAed 5950x a bit ago! ;)

I couldn't wait and picked up a 5900x for $400 at MC to replace the 3700x. I'm still interested to see how the 5800x3d performs but the $450 MSRP, reduced clocks, and 4 fewer cores make it less interesting to me. The 5800x3d just doesn't seem like a good value (guess it matches the regular 5800x at release in that regard).

Yeah, it's been a weird placement the whole time. At first it was too expensive but at least it was available, so I got one. Then I was seeing $300 5800x's at microcenter next to a 5600x for $250. $450 for a 5800x3d seems too much even if it performs as well as expected, so I'm guessing it'll drop quickly in price as well.

5600 as a replacement for 2700x on a bad b450m would be a good move? The 2700x is a big consumer and this motherboard of mine can't "feed" it

Looks like a B350 bios update incoming.

Darn. Reached out to ASRock asking for Renoir support bios for my AB350. They said it does not support it.

Now I am debating B-550 with 5600g or 11400 with whatever

For me it wasn't even the pricing. The 5800X is already the one SKUs in the lineup that I think has a harder time with thermals than even the 5900X just due to the density of heat generation to one spot vs spreading it out more between 2 chipsets on the 5900X. Add a 3d layer to it and I just really wonder how hard the 5800X3D would be to deal with thermally.

I likewise opted to grab a 5900X for sub $400.

5900X for $400.00 is silly good value if you can get it as an upgrade to your current AM4 setup.

At this point, my plan is to upgrade my 3600x to a 5700x (5800x being so notoriously hot, I have hopes the lower TDP of the 5700x will keep it under control with my CM Hyper 212 Black)

- Will go to local MC for hopefully $250 etc.

5700x isn't going to run much cooler. It's like the difference between the 3700x/3800x. Largely, the 3700x can hit those higher TDP's anyways. The issue with the newer chips 'running hotter' is just the fact that it's a 7nm process CPU.

You can already pickup the 5800x for $250 at MC if you use the 'new customer' coupon.

Curious to see performance loss of 5500 vs 5600. Depending on applications used, it could be worth the $40 saved.

with these launched so late into the product cycle... I wonder if this means that zen 4 will be delayed

Even before these price drops, AMD is still dominating the top ten in Amazon so I can't see them in a rush to release a DDR5 platform. There are plenty of Zen 1, Zen 2 and even pre ADL users that want to get some more use of the DDR4 they have before jumping ship.

By the way, the 5600g is now $210, which is a pretty good deal for non-gamers. And yes, I know it's been $200 at Microcenter for a while now. Shut up already

I don't think so. Different nodes, and they released the Zen 2 refreshes (XT parts) only a few months before Zen 3 launched.
