I have a client that has one office setup with a Windows 2000 Server as a rounter using internet sharing and two NICs

I want to stop this server from acting as a router so I intend to plug the internet router into the Switch remove the second NIC and tell DHCP to assigne the routers IP as the gateway, would this work?

I understand that the VPN on this server would no longer work but I am installing a 3COM OfficeConnect for IPSec and it also has PPP for client dial in.

Go for it. If you are redoing everything then it should work fine.

Advice: Try to maintain the server's IP address. Leave it be if possible.

yes I will be keeping the network side NIC in place so its 192 address will stay the same I will just remove the cable that goes from the other NIC to the internet router.

You can always forward the vpn port to the servers static ip address through the router and resetup the vpn.

1723 is already open as its a fully working VPN with a ADSL Modem / Router in front of it. I ts the port forwarding I would need to change as the NICs IP will no longer be the same.
