Hey guys.

Very quick enquiry.

Ive been playing a game the last two years of manually backing up my pictures. I am a photographer (hobbyist who does it for fun) but I also get some work here and there and have a LOT of LARGE photos. (D810, and I shoot RAW)

Long story short. I have a an SSD, and a 3tb HD. I bought a USB3 2tb drive as a backup. I have now outgrown that.

So I want to buy two 6 TB drives, and either RAID them, or have software that does a weekly manual backup.

I have an HTPC that is plenty powerful that has plenty of room in it. My main computer is in a different area. THE HTPC is a low power, low noise solution and I could leave it on all the time.

However, I am a total networking N00b. Would it be easier to just buy a simple 2 bay NAS unit like a QNAP, or would it be easy to use my HTPC box as a solution?!? Im not sure how to use FREENAS, but I have heard of it.

I dont have crazy needs, Id just like some redundancy for my ever increasing photo pile.

Any advice/suggestions?!?
