Simple question, does the current FiOS DVR have analog/RCA output and does it have variable audio output? (ie can you adjust the volume for the analog out on the DVR/remote)

My sister is moving away and she's getting FiOS service, originally I wanted to get her a receiver and a decent surround setup but she absolutely refuses to have such a thing until she upgrades her small-ish TV (no its not a logical argument but she's a woman so it's not even worth arguing about it, no offense to the more tech-inclined ladies!).

Anyway, I thought that instead I could get her some small powered 2.0 speakers that would go well with her current TV/furniture, something that she could later use in her room as PC speakers or as a basic stereo paired with an iPod. Just need an answer to my question, w/o variable volume output it wouldn't work well obviously...

Yes, she should have analog output, here's the latest FiOS DVR gear (Cisco sourced)

I've got this box at home but I don't know for sure about the audio bit (HDMI right off that sucker to the reciever), but the DVR does have audio controls so I'm going to make an educated guess that yes, it will control analog audio output

There is a software audio level on the box that I think is turned all the way up and you will have to reprogram the fios remote to get it to adjust that.. im not sure if it will perform the way you are trying to get it to though with those external speakers.
