Question about Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade

I got one through my school for $34 and now I'm wondering how do I install windows again if I want to reformat or even upgrade? The key is only good for one computer... How does the software check?
 
What OS are your running now?

How old is your hardware? Does it meet the hardware requirements?

It checks via the internets..
 
Oh, I have windows 7 64bit on my computer right now and runs great. I was asking if I decided to do a full computer upgrade next year, how do I get the same activation on that computer transfered?

What I am asking is do I have to deactivate my key in order to reactivate it on another computer?
 
if it is OEM your not supposed to, it is tied to one computer, you just simply try to install it and hope it activates.
 
If the purchase was a Windows 7 Upgrade pack then it depends upon what you use as a qualifying license whether or not you end up with an OEM or a retail licensed install. Upgrade a previous retail license and you end up with full retail license entitlements. Upgrade an OEM license and you inherit the legal restrictions of the previous OEM license.
