I'm a newbie at website design and I'm wondering if this feature is easy to do. (I don't know what its called actually)

Here is what I mean:

For example at the top of apple's website, (http://www.apple.com/trailers/) there are two images/posters. One of them "City of Men" the other "Beowulf". How can I create this effect where it shows one picture then changes to the other after a few seconds? It doesn't seem to be flash thats doing it.

Any help is appreciated.

It looks like they are using a combination of CSS and Javascript to change the opacity on images in order to make it look like a smoother transition.

class="ACCrossfadeQueueElement" style="position: absolute; opacity: 0.999999; z-index: 1;"

You can do this with the mootools framework.
