I was flooded with upwards of 50 alerts from ZoneAlarm stating that the program has blocked some ip's that have been trying to gain internet access to my computer. The alert number kept increasing and I believe that they were not going to cease. I then decided to immediately unplug the ethernet cable as this was a new experience.

1.Is this something that should be of a big concern?
2.If it is, what further steps can I take to ensure that I am better prepared and protected?

Here is the log:

1. Not really, it's what happens when you connect a computer to the Internet.
2. Put your box behind a NAT router or proper firewall

Alright, thanks for the advice guys, do you have any personal recommendations on a budget NAT router? The router im currently using is a linksys wrt54g.

That's fine. Did you put yourself in a DMZ or something? If you're behind that you shouldn't be seeing any incoming traffic by default...

lol Ohhhh alright, actually I just found out what DMZ is, it would leave me completely vulnerable to an attack.
