Question about ARC, sound bars and volume control

Hey Guys,

I've got an older Sony KDL55HX800 I bought for my parents and with their hearing getting worse I was looking into getting a sound bar but never really learned much about them.

They are not one for change and are just now getting comfortable with the Direct Tv remote so am I right that the tv volume button if I use a sony sound bar will still control the volume on the sound bar?

And second question, if the ARC uses HDMI 1 which is currently their Direct Tv should it be moved to 2 or does it matter which HDMI for direct tv it moves to?


I'm looking at sound bars based on the limited area of space.

It should control the the sound bar and yes you need to use the arc port from the tv to the sound bar. Generally only one port on TV's do arc.
