question about an XP install (hd copy/swap)

hey, this is going to sound stupid, but i was curious if i could format a new HD, add it as a slave to my regular box, boot up, copy all of the content from my main drive over to the new one ... turn off my computer, pull the old main drive, change the jumper and ide cable on the new one and boot from that?

i know i should probably just reformat and start over, but i've some software i won't be able to install again.

my question is it possible to copy windows XP from one drive to another without hurting anything? it doesn't sound like it should, but i don't want to assume anything.

Can't just copy files - you need a software like Ghost to get it right.

Ghost will do it. I hug my copy of Ghost every morning when I get to work.
