Quentin Tarantino has pitched a Star Trek film to JJ Abrams and Paramount, and the whole thing is moving at warp speed. The Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill director required it to be R rated, and Paramount and Abrams agreed to that condition. The Revenant’s Mark L. Smith is expected to pen the script.

Imagine how this could open storytelling lanes, or even what the banter on the bridge of the Starship Enterprise might be, if you conjure up memories of the conversations between Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta in Pulp Fiction, or the banter at the diner between robbers before the heist gone wrong that triggered the action in Reservoir Dogs.

A Hateful 8 in the star trek universe could be interesting.

What a load of horseshit, "The Murders, the Murders". Who do you think he's talking about? I cannot support a man that supports hate groups / Terrorist groups like BLM. Especially when you make speeches for your own personal or political gain.

That being said though, The cop that shot that man that was running away from him, IS a murderer & he was found guilty.

He literally called the police officer who shot an unarmed man in the back, while he was running away, a murderer. He also declared that any other policeman who did something similar was a murderer. What is wrong with that? The officer in question? Well, a jury of his peers just found him guilty of murder a few days ago - he's serving 20 years. Policeman or no, being found guilty of murder makes you a murderer.

I think you answered your own question. Now if you don’t want to support him for his other views fine and dandy have fun.

As for the movie. I never got hugely into Star Trek as a series or the movies, and as much as I’ve enjoyed other Tarantino movies (and even the Star Trek reboot) I don’t think this will be for me.

That's fine, he's correct. But protesting with a racist group like BLM he should not have done, which tells me he supports their ideology.

I would agree, BLM has become the antithesis of peaceful cooperation and I definitely don't support them. It's unfortunate that he stood with them, but it won't affect my enjoyment of his movies.

I am thinking phasers will no longer stun or vaporize people. They will blow people's limbs off. Put a lot of heat into something extremely fast and BOOM!

Tarantinos Khan doesn't use ear bugs when a simple knife is more effective. There have also been a small handful of trek fans looking to see one of their favorites gimped up for some time. So Tarantino is a solid fan service choice really.

Really though if I was Tarantino who is a huge Trek fan and at a point where I could do anything I want... why not. He is one of the few directors out there who is big enough to not have to put up with studio interference in pretty much anything he wants to do, so we may just get something really special.

To the person that mention Scarzi's redshirts, and the mention of old mans war coming to netflix. I hope they really pull that off. Old Mans war is a great book. Scarzi's isn't always the most original of writers, but I have loved every one of his books.

I think starttrek discovery crossed this line already. Maybe not R rating

So Quentin will film his scenes in 5 different lenses and have them in the desert.

JJ will film only in outer space using slomo's, rotating cameras, EXPLOSIONS, REPEAT OF THE SAME EXPLOSIONS and plaster Advertising everywhere. Now the crew drinks Mountain Dew and they use Lenovo tablets!

There's no mention in the article, but will they be going with Enterprise cast setting or something completely new universe reboot etc?

With Tarantino writing, it could be a good break to start a whole new starship and crew instead of being curtailed to all the cannon from previous Enterprises.

Sir Patrick Stewart said that he would reprise his role as Picard given the change to work with Tarantino, whom he's always wanted to work with, for what reason I don't know....

So based on that, I would assume it would be TNG universe, don't know about the other cast members though.

R rating not necessarily equal to lots of T&A. Although Star Trek has had sex ever since Kirk laid his first alien. Could make a mirror universe movie very interesting since they seem more sexual there. Maybe the mirror universe invades the normal one after Empress Sato took over.

unnecessary

I totally agree. I'd rather not have a Star Trek with an R rating or done in a typical Tarantino fashion sex, over the top violence or cursing. Keep that crap out of Star Trek, Gene Roddenberry would be rolling in his grave & probably will be.

That being said though, if they go that route Sir Patrick Stewart can definitely play a role like that, he was excellent in The Green Room.

Mixed feelings. But, they could take the Chris Pine era Star Trek and spice it up a bunch, it needs help.

I don't like a single Tarantino film. So. This is a pass, even if ST is seriously in need of a few R rated Movies.

everyone acknowledges that sex sells but for a Star Wars movie? I thought their fan base was large enough to easily fund the next movie sequel? In the first movie the Princess did show some skin but today R rating seems to mean soft porn

R rating not necessarily equal to lots of T&A

like what?

I'd rather Tarantino do a new movie set in space not related to the Trek universe...space western maybe similar to Firefly

The jokes write themselves. Its the Star Trek name! Its got Tarantino edginess! Gruesome revenge story! Cliche fanservice! It'll be a mega hit!

Got damn tribbles on my got damn starship! Klingon muther-farker, do you speak it? The hateful eight borg.

I'm really intrigued what Tarantino will do here. He's on record saying he wants to do a Star Trek movie that more resembles a stand alone episode of original Star Trek, rather than these long character arc movies. Which sounds like a good idea. I mean, the last movie was pretty bad in my opinion, why not?

If it's with JJ then it will probably be Star Trek 4 in the Kelvin timeline.

Lens Flares! You forgot Lens Flares. Did I mention the Lens Flares?

I don't care. But if they get Zoe Saldana nekid, I'll buy it.

I can see how they could easily go into R-rated territory and keep things in-line with TNG trek's world view (between the violent Klingons and Riker's many "adventures") but somehow I fear that it'll be more in Tarantino's world view and suddenly they're swearing like it's Pulp Fiction and/or there are Hateful Eight-levels of fountain blood (though IIRC, they did kind of go into that direction in one of the TOS movies, though I also recall it looking painfully fake)

Green chick going a fraction of Full Impulse speed on Kirk's face...

They need SLJ in this movie. "I've had it with these muthafuckin' tribbles on this muthafuckin' starship!"
