Quasar 42" 4K 60hz with HDMI 2

Yes, I was talking to geok1ng .

4:4:4 is not the end of the world games will still look awesome!

Its actually not that bad. I think I might put up with it till something better comes along. It only set me back $330. The worst part that I notice is the cursor bracket is missing its middle bar.

Take some quick shots of it in games/windows.

no problem.

How is the 980 holding up to the increase resolution? I there any mouse lag?

So far pretty good. Im about 1.5 years behind though on games. Im currently play BF4 and Batman Arkham Origins. Both play well at 4k.

Only time I noticed mouse lag was when I first hooked this thing up and it did 4K at 30Hz. After making the switch manually in the Nividia control panel to 60hz the mouse lag went away.

Yay! Mine has arrived but wont have it hooked up until tomorrow evening. Do you know if its 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 (or does NVidia only do 4:2:0?) Hows the backlight?

Is it possible to tweak the Windows color scheme to avoid the worst 4:2:0 artifacts?

How can I check whether is 4:2:2 or 4:2:0

I can tell you Ive been tweaking the nvidia color controls and the TVs to better the artifacts. Its really not that bad now.

If 4:4:4, both 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 should be clearly readable, like this -

I had to use some rubber pieces to tilt the stand more towards me. it was pointing too far up for my taste.

Have you had a 4k display before? If not does it bring a new dimension to Movies and Gaming?

There are a few 4k shows on netflix.

This is my first 4K display. I havent tried Netflix yet but for gaming Im not sure I can now go back to my 32" BenQ I was using before.

Can you post any pictures or do a YouTube overview?

Ill see if I have the time to do that. I can tell you that the Quasar looks exactly like the Polaroid set posted earlier in this thread. Wonder if they are the same?

Ive decided to keep the Quasar as a monitor. After a few tweaks to the Nvidia color panel Im happy with its output results.

Interesting.. I bought the 42" Polaroid yesterday, should be here this week.

Could you share your NVIDIA settings?

I changed the color setting to "desktop applications" and turned down the digital vibrance a bit. There are some tweaks yet that I have yet to try with the TVs color settings.

Looking at the Polaroid manual. Very similar TVs. Same onscreen menus. The HDMI 2.0 port is in the exact same spot. Polaroid has 1 more HDMI port though.

How do these monitors look when you set them to 1080P for gaming? I only have a 280X so thats not gonna be enough to push 4K gaming. But i'd love to check these out for 4K desktop and 1080P gaming.

I am interested in this or 1440p as well. Really would like to see a pic of how it looks while running various applications.

Another difference should be the Quasar is Edge-lit while the Polaroid is Direct-lit.

I hate doing photos cause Im not a photographer. My pics dont do the monitor justice

Setting mine up now - decided to do a fresh windows install. Pretty impressive so far.

Couple of things:
- Pretty impressive out the box - haven't tried configuring anything.
- Nice thin bezel all the way around and stand is a good height for desktop (although not adjustable)
- It has a built in HDTV ATSC tuner that I'll probably never use.
- 42in is definitely not too big for a desktop monitor
- I have a dead pixel and maybe a tiny dust spec behind the glass (No big deal given the price and resolution).
- softMCCS reports it as "Soyo 4K2K" manufactured 2013 and DDC/CI not supported
- 4K @ 60Hz desktop looks like 4:2:0 no noticeable lag. Obvious mouse lag @ 30hz
- $10 "Mediabridge ULTRA Series HDMI Cable (10 Feet)" works fine for HDMI 2.0

Tweaking the Nvidia color settings has done wonders to image quality. Especially dealing with the fuzzy text.

I realize the 4Kishness is being lost when FB resizes.. heh

Wasn't sure initially about this screen w/ my Backlight issue, but now I'm all in.

I just uploaded them to facebook and then posted the URL here.. heh

Woo there we go

(apologies for the huge image :p)

24 viewing distance
1.8 / forge / optifine / shaders

anywhere from 30-60 fps, no lag, completely playable

@pbassjunk I am trying to get a grasp on what 4:2:0 looks like for desktop use, do you have any photos? Do you find using it ok?
