I bet those guys still rocking a native 720p display are laughing at us 1080p early adopters.

That's what happens when you develop for the weak console.

I really don't think Microsoft cares about resolution anymore. They would rather a game be 720p with higher visual fidelity than 1080p looking worse.

Xbox One is a total failure...what was Microsoft thinking?...almost all games run at 720p and perform worse then a PS4...MS went backwards after the Xbox 360

Think about what you just wrote there.

You sure about that? Outside of the early launch window, there have been a very few 720p games. Most of the have either been 900p or 1080p. No they don't all perform worse then the PS4 when the resolution is decreased. There have been many titles where the XB1 with a lower resolution has a more consistent framerate then the PS4 version. If the Xbox one was a total failure it wouldn't be selling at a faster rate of the Xbox 360.

Higher resolution does not automatically equal high visual fidelity. Many developers run at lower resolution and/or frame rate in an effort to save compute power for other types of improved graphical effects.

Developers could easily make every single Xbox One game run at 1080p60 if they wanted. The games would just look like shit because a lot of other graphical effects would have to be cut to make that happen.

Developers have to balance high resolution with all other aspects of the visual quality and find a middle ground between resolution and other graphical effects. In this case the developer believed keeping the game at 720p gave them room for other type of graphical improvements that would not be possible if it was 900p or 1080p.

yes I meant most games run at less then 1080p...and it's a failure compared to the PS4 and compared to how technology should improve with each generation, not go backwards...and I'm talking strictly about games and not all the extra crap that the consoles can do

This is weak sauce. 720p/30 is what I expected 11 years ago. I'm a little intrigued to see how the PC version runs. At least assuming it isn't a technical steaming pile like the Gears of War remake.

Remedy seems to do well with their PC versions. I wouldn't worry too much.

When compared to the PS4 its not a complete failure yeah the PS4 does 1080p on more titles but it also will have many frame drops as well. The problem is perception people see 1080p vs 900p and automatically assume the 1080p is going to be superior because of the resolution only. When it comes to framerate the 1080p version is dropping into the 20s where the 900p version will stay at its target framerate. Personally I would prefer a consistent framerate over an increase in resolution.

I think both machines should do 1080p easily with no issues but thats not always the case. To be honest I think the performance is pretty good when you consider its an AMD APU from 2013. To put it in perspective you saying it going backwards. You take Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes which is 720p on both the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One. You can't tell me the Xbox 360 and Xbox one version look the same. The textures are hands down better and the overall image quality is superior, even though they're the same resolution.

But going back to Quantum Break its been reported that there is a Day 1 patch to should improve performance visual quality. Now if that means the game is 1080p vs 720p who knows.

20 million xb1 sold and that pretty much USA only cause we all know Japan is not buying an American console. So I guess I'm bummed I won't get any weird Japanese games.

I'll make do with halo gears forza crackdown.

I do agree this gen consoles are alittle weak either xb1 900p 30fps or ps4 1080p sub 30fps both systems should have had better gpus.

I guarantee I have played my xb1 more then My 360 or PS3 between witcher 3 destiny tomb raiders and the division it's been great.

So 4xMSAA is now being called "temporal reconstruction," eh? Funnily enough, this type of image sampling was developed, in part, by NVIDIA.

I don't care. If the game is fun to play, then count me in.

This! Being a fan of the Alan Wake games, on the 360, I was already looking forward to this. Several people have released gameplay videos on Youtube, after getting to play the first two missions (I believe). The game looks great, IMO, and I got my copy pre-ordered.

If it is the 4xMSAA that is actually two or more sets of 2xMSAA alternating each other frame, then it was AMD in 2004 that started it with the Radeon X800, Nvidia just tried it back a year and a half ago, but they still have the same issues that AMD found over 10 years ago.

I was watching a stream of someone playing Quantum Break, and the graphics looked very good. I personally would not care about the 720P. It is unfortunate that the XB1 is not as powerful as the 360 for their respective times, but dropping the res is not such a big deal IMO.

Been a fan of Remedy since Max Payne, and I preordered Quantum Break over the weekend. Getting a copy on both XB1 and PC was a nice touch, and now I am very curious to see how it will run on PC.

Absolutely excited about this game so much so that I pre ordered it. I have never pre ordered a game before and I also have not been excited about a game for at least the last 14 years. (Last game I ever got excited over was Star Trek: Bridge Commander.) Nice to also have a free copy of the game for my Windows 10 gaming PC and also an XBox 360 game for free. :) I have not payed full price for a game in at least 10 years so, you could probably tell I am super excited about this. :)

Gspot gave it 6/10.
Hyped ign gave it 8/10.
Yep the lower than expected scores and the early reports of the PC version being a shit port (it doesn't even have a Quit option in the menu ffs), is making me wait until the game is on sale sometime down the road. Hopefully everything will be patched up by then as well.

So I have to chime in here. The game even if it is 720p is the prettiest console game i've ever seen. Holy shit it looks incredible. Which to me just reiterates how resolution is not everything, and depending on what you do with it can still look phenomenal. But more important than that, the gameplay and story are great. Great acting, love the live-action scenes, time powers are great. Having a great time with it. Love what Remedy has done, and their previous games too.

Here are a few screenies I took.

I have to post this too. Right at the beginning there is this super cool and well-done "trailer" with the Max Payne guy, and Alan Wake actor in some sort of crime thriller.

Starts at 4:40.

Still looks blurry to me, as does the PC version oddly enough - it's disappointing. As far as the prettiest console game, I'd have to give that to either The Order 1886 or Infamous Second Son but to each his own. It's a good looking game none-the-less, but it had a lot more potential.

You know, you're right. I have both of those myself and The Order and Second Son do look incredibly good. It's a tough call, but Quantum Break is definitely up there.

I think Rise of the Tomb Raider ranks pretty high as well. Either way, I'm enjoying Quantum Break so far.

I still don't get why 720p, this number means so much to anyone. If a game looks good, it looks good. You have to see a number tied to it to determine whether something looks good? Do you need to see the notes or the waves in a DAW to determine if a song sounds good? You need to know a girl's measurements?

Again, the game is on a console where you're sitting on a couch probably pretty far away from the TV. Higher resolution on a pc only matters to me because I sit right in front of my monitor.

Or you know...maybe I'm not blind and can easily tell when a game is rendered at 720p opposed to a higher resolution even on a TV? :meh:

Just because YOU can't tell the difference doesn't mean that many others can't either.

Or maybe people like to think that they can see a difference so they have a reason to bitch about a game. :)

Right, that makes complete sense.

Or its the fact that I, and a large amount of other people, can tell when a game is rendered at the bare minimum of what is considered high definition. I never said the game sucked or was bad because of it; I just said that it is disappointing that it is 2016 and we're still being fed 720p games. It detracts from my experience when I clearly can tell its 720p due to large aliased edges or poor clarity of objects in the distance. If it doesn't ruin your experience then good for you. No reason for you guys to get butt hurt because I and some other people are not entirely happy with the 720p resolution.

Truth be told, I don't give a fat fuck about resolution as long as the game is fun.

Gamers nowadays seem to get hung up on trivial shit instead of playing the games. It's like they forgot why they got into gaming in the first place.

And that is entirely your opinion, good on you for being able to create one. Doesn't mean mine is any less wrong than yours.

People also tend to forget that it is 2016 and 720p was the "go-to" resolution a decade ago for console games. Don't know about you, but as a gamer I still believe in progression. If gamers didn't care about progression then we'd still be stuck in the 8-bit era. Those games were still a blast to play at the time, but the progress we made since then only enhanced experiences and that includes visual fidelity.

720p at 30 FPS is an absolute joke in 2016. But to each his own.

What does year have to do with anything? It isn't a question of what year it is, it is a matter of the hardware driving the game. Don't blame the game, blame the Xbox One. PS4 is barely faster. These consoles are woefully underpowered compared to last generation (relative to current tech at time of release).

Get used to it, this is not even three years into the life of the console and many Xbox games are running at less than 1080, finding tricks like QB temporal reconstruction or Dynamic Resolution.

Just give them a month or so to make the PC release better and run it at high res on your AMD card, which according to benchmarks runs the game very well.

To be fair, you talk about progression but all you have is 720p at 30FPs as if that is a arbitrarily bad thing. All you have to do is look at the graphics in Quantum Break and try to find a Xbox 360 or PS4 game that looks anywhere near that good. You won't find it. Just because 720p and 30fps is there doesn't mean there hasn't been any progress. Sure it's 720p @ 30FPS, but they could do a lot more with it than they could 10 years ago.

I sincerely hope you mean a PS3 game because I could point you to a handful of PS4 games that are 1080p and also look better than Quantum Break.

And yes, 720p/30 is a "bad thing" to me. Again, you guys are arguing your opinion as it is fact - as if my distaste for 720p/30 is unwarranted due to your opinions that you believe override mine. The game is not bad, but the resolution and FPS is to me. The same situation happened with Dead Rising 3; it was a good game that I played and beat on the Xbox One. But when the PC version hit and I played it at 1080p/60 then I had a much better time.

No, I never stated anything as a fact. You're putting words in my mouth. All I mentioned was that just because it's 720p and 30fps doesn't mean there has been NO progress between last gen and this gen. That's my point. To argue that Quantum Break doesn't look better than anything on ps3 or 360 is plainly false.

Ive never even heard of this game untill i saw all the bad press about the crappy pc version. Is this supposed to be some great game? Or is it another QTE borefest like the uncharted series.

I'll readily admit that I am in the minority here, but this is my opinion. I think it is a good game, the gameplay is that of a third person shooter but the gimmick is the time powers. Very stylish, fast and fluid combat. The story is the real shining star of this game. I thought it was amazing.

The shortcomings on the PC version (in relation to what we come to except from a proper PC release) are well documented. Most of them should be fixed in the near future. Some things cannot be fixed. Throw in the fact that the game is short and many consider it a bad value at $60, then I would really recommend people wait until the game gets some nice patches and maybe a price drop.

It's an above average game. I won't say anymore as I don't want to run the risk of getting crucified by those participating in the circle jerk in this thread.

You're entitled to your opinion. Sounds to me like you should just sell your Xbox and continue gaming on PC. I mean... There aren't THAT many exclusives right? I think it's really clear here that on Xbox one you have two options - 1080p and cut-down graphics. Or 720p and increased assets. Not both. Yeah, it's not fair that the previous generation both upped the resolution AND the assets, but what can you do?
