Hey guys, I believe it's been almost 2 years now since I've posted on any OC forums and I'm looking at doing few upgrades to my old, what used to be "Ultimate Setup".

Here's the PC(Asus-A8N Deluxe, [email protected], Raptors Raid-0, 7800gtx's, Corsair XMS 2-2-2-5)...

The main question that I'm looking to have answered is about a video card upgrade. I'm thinking about selling my 256mb 7800gtx's that have been working out great for me running @ 495/1350 for 2 years now. I would like to upgrade to a 8800gtx, but the funds arnt all there.

How much of an upgrade will I see going from (2) 7800gtx's to a single 8800GTS, or will I need buy a 8800gtx to really see a difference.

I play bolt-rifles only in COD2 about 3-4 hours a day right now, but plan to play alot of crysis when it comes out.

Thanks for any input that you may have.

If your current cards are working fine, then wait and see what nvidia (or ati) come out with closer to Crysis's release.

You might also think about selling the whole system as a "Gamer's Package!" or something ;p

Thats a good idea, but the price of my 7800gtx's will prob be around $100 each by then, right now I think I can get about $140 each.

What card/'s did you have before your 8800GTS 640mb?

If it were me, I would run 'em till they didn't have the performance for the current games.

Will they run Crysis fine in DX9 mode? Most likely very well. It may be "old", but you have some real nice hardware there.

I have my old comp (P4 2.8, 6600GT, Gig of ram, lots o' HDs).

I'd say keep your system for now, and instead of selling just the cards, sell it as a whole thing (minus monitor / speakers and other accessories). Then you can bump to a C2D (or Quad, or AMD's latest if its out).

That way you can build a new box out of what you sell it for, assuming you can find someone who wants a good gaming machine and doesn't know how/want to build their own.

I just happen to have some data on that very subject. These shots were taken from my computer when I upgraded my (2) 7800GTX's to a single 8800GTS.

This shot is my 7800GTX's in SLi. The cards are overclocked to 490 / 1300!

Now, I uninstalled my (2) 7800GTX's and simply installed (1) 8800GTS 640mb. This score was attained with the stock clocks.

I then decided to up the clocks on my single 8800GTS to 625 / 1000 (effectively 2000).

Remember to look at my processor at the time. It was an AMD Opteron 170. Soooo.. I am sure my scores would have been much higher with a C2Duo as I believe I was CPU limited on that Opty.

I think one 8800 GTS will perform approx same as your current setup in DX9 -not counting apps where SLI does not scale probably- You should either go 8800GTX or wait for next gen

The 7800GTX 512's were insane fast, with 550/1.7ghz memory, He stated original 256mb 7800gtx clocks though. I assume he purchased those coolers and replaced the single-slot ones. But the thing is I'm confused seeing that his PCB has the dual-slot PCI bracket as well. What brand are they?
