Any of the idTech 3 based games would look great, honestly.

Jedi Outcast/Academy, Elite Force II, etc.

iI'M NOT An idiot. QUAKE 2 IS THE ONLY BROKEN VERSION OF QUAKE, AS THE RESOLUTIONS ARE BUILT INTO THE EXECUTABLE, AND CAN'T BE OVERRIDDEN VIA SCRIPTS.

I'VE ALREADY TRIED THAT MANY TIMES.

    instructions for editing your executable:

    https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=248035586

I can confirm this works, and will supply my modified executable. Just choose 1600x1200 to get 1920x1080.

Once again, it would be nice if Nvidia did this for the release.

    No need to get defensive.

I just played the Steam version of Quake II the other day for the spring cleaning event and used the command line switches to run it at 4K without installing or adding anything additional. The UI was too small to read, but it worked.

EDIT: Just wanted to add that the command line switches are:

    -width
    -height
    -bpp

    So I used
    -width 3840 -height 2160 -bpp 32

Same as GLQuake. The original poster was referencing the switches for idTech 4 instead of idTech 2.

Sure ok. But wonder why they chose to do Q2 and not Q3? Some Q3-Team Arena with RTX sounds cool to me, looks pretty good as it is for a 20 year old engine.

I'd assume that they're 'getting there'. The codebases likely grow significantly with each release, making Q2 a more accessible start to understanding and working with id programmatic theology.

They could of started at quake.. would be nice as that's a very dark game to begin with. Would of added much to the creepy atmosphere!

I think they chose Quake 2 to ride on the public interest from this Quake 2 RT research project / downloadable mod that was shown publicly in January.

    http://brechpunkt.de/q2vkpt/

That mod is playable right now. That mod also does a much better job with the light colouring and intensity than Nvidia's demo.

I wonder if there's been any partnership or communication between the people who made that Q2 RT project and Nvidia.

I would love to see this in some of the games I have poured many hours into. Witcher 3...Skyrim....not sure how even a 2080 TI could run it though.

May not be far off as Epic have UT alpha for download via their game launcher. Hopefully it will support RTX "out of the box", if not when it goes "gold"

There are quite a few older games that might be really cool looking with raytracing:

    Aliens vs Predator 2 (~2001) + expansion
    No One Lives Forever 1/2
Prey (the great one from 2006)
    Quake 1 + expansions
    Jedi Knight I, II, expansions
    Voyager: Elite Force
    Soldier of Fortune
maybe even those older remakes of Wolfenstein: Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Wolfenstein RPG (2008) and Wolfenstein (2009)
Call of Duty 1 and 2
    Unreal

I would replay ALL of these if they had RTX versions come out.. hell, just thinking about some of these has me itching to replay them...

Someone, get on that. (psst nVidia). If several of these come out with Raytracing, I will buy a 2080Ti

Or is it just regarding games that you live in the past?

What does my operating system have to do with Quake II RTX? Although for your information no, I don't run Windows 3.1. I've got more RAM than it can support. Do you run Win 3.1?

Factum was replying to your "physical media" comment. In the current gaming era, there is no physical media anymore for PC. Even if you buy a game at a *GASP* retail store, 99% of the time it's just a download code for Steam/Origin/Ubi/etc etc etc

Yup and it sucks cause the pc boxes I've collected and sold years ago were awesome as the few I still have.

The sad part is once you get rid of the console you dont have the games anymore. Cant sell the games. Cant package the console with the games like in the past.

Heres a scary thought.. what happens when steam goes belly up? Were's all our games? Nothing. No physical box to look at to bring all those memories back years later.. cant okay the game anymore. Dont have a copy.

Valve has publicly stated that they'd essentially allow customers to download their libraries and continue to play them.

Of course, we don't know what that would look like, but that's as good of a guarantee that you're going to get for anything.

How? If the company no longer exists there no money to pay for those servers to host the games for people to download. There would have to be some other company to host the games and there gona have to have some sort of income coming in to want to host those games.

Most likely.. (well IF they nice about it) give some sort of notice that you need to download all of your library and back it up by such a time frame or forfeit ownership of your games.

Though, then your talking about a serious bandwidth issue of millions of people trying to download their whole library at once, their would be like 0 bandwidth to go around hehe.

I know that. It's actually the reason why I don't *gasp* game on PC anymore lol. Besides, it's not like Quake 2 is a PC exclusive anymore. I own it physically on PC as well as Nintendo 64. And I can sell or trade them any time I please. Isn't that cool?

I agree, it would be interesting to see how this was handled. In many cases, Steam is the only form of DRM for games on that platform. If they just said "Hey guys, we're outta here, be sure and download your games before X date, we're making it so they'll launch without Steam running" then would people just be free to share those games around? I can't imagine the pubs being OK with that, so I wonder how they'd handle it.

Still, I don't see them going anywhere anytime soon so thankfully this is merely an interesting thought exercise at this point.

So you've got a bunch of really old games that you can try to sell or trade? Lol. Look, I admire you standing firm on your principles but it's causing you to miss out on some really, really good games. But, I suspect that you know that and you just don't really care. :p

Sounds like he's gaming new stuff on consoles only.

Those old pc boxes games are work of art though I think.. hold on to them.. wish I still had most of the ones I've bought in the past for the collection.

The full Quake/Duke Nukem/Blood serious and some original Wolfenstein,Rise of the Triad !!! Those alone would put a smile on my face on the shelves everytime I seen them.
