Quad P3 700s vs something new for around 225-275

My P4 pulls around 55-60 PPD. Assuming your P3 can pull half the PPD, that is roughly 30 PPD x 4 = 120 PPD.

For around $300 you can easily get an A64 or a Sempron Setup that puts at least twice the PPD on one proc. My s754 3000+ can go as high as 320 ppd. My 2 centavos.

My X2 3800 w/ m/b cost $270, add in $50 for RAM and a few bucks for video, PSU and figure about 400 ppd except when Stanford feeds you Timeless Gromacs.
Here are some other outputs of my home builts - for basic CPU and m/b, they were all about $70 to $90
Barton 2500 (2.2Ghz?)- br 6892 - 129ppd - p2365 -
AMD Applebred 1.8 - br 5968 - 136ppd - p1481
AMD 2400 (1.66Ghz ) - br 672 - 112ppd, p1159

Of coure a quad ANYTHING looks cooler :)

If you have it, use it. Otherwise you are better off spending the money on something new.

Oh You mean something like this:

One goal with getting this beast running: Money and constant searching on ebay

Where did you get a X2 and MB for under $300? I can't find anything like that. I'd like to retire my XP and get an X2, but I don't want to pay $300+ for a proc alone.
