Fry's has it for $180.

What's the folding community's thoughts on how fast this will fall?

I see them introducing the Core 2 Quad Q8200 for a $203 soon, do you think that I could find another Q6600 for say $150 by September?

From what I know of the 8200 its a budget quad that will essentially be 2 45nm pentium chips on a die, so 2x2megs of L2. The only way that's going to be better for folders is if it's A) cheaper than the Q6600, or B) sips power even more efficiently than the Q9450 chips, which would allow the PPD per watt to make it slightly more desirable compared to the Q6600. So running stock, that could tip in the 8200's favor, but with a multi of 7, overclocking will most likely suck considering the Q9450's aren't hitting more than 480fsb, and a fair amount are stuck in the 440-460 range. So 7x450 is only 3.15ghz, which the Q6600 should be able to top that easily in most cases and make up for any gains the 45nm has in IPC.

So IMO, Q6600 is still your cpu for dedicated folding boxen, for now.

I doubt Intel will drop the price of the Q6600 much more. It's likely it will stay around the same price as it is until it's phased out for the newer models. Basically, it's the same thing they did with the original E6300-E6700 models except I don't think they dropped as much.

The price of 227$ per 1000 is the bottom a Q6600 will ever get. It will get phased out when the Q8200 become available. My advice is to buy 1-2 if you have future expansion plans.

I might buy 1 more...
