put in standby mode?

just wondering if its best to just put my laptop in standby when im going places instead of turning it off. Like from work to home and vice versa.
I mostly reccommed to people not to do it on tower because i personally dont think towers are supposed to go into standy, but i read somewhere that laptops are.
any comments will help

I use standby on my laptops all the time - keep in mind that roughly once a month you will probably need to reboot it for some stupid reason - but standby does me very well.
