I already have a good monitor, speaker, sound card and keyboard and mouse setup so those arent an issue. I figured im building a new system might as well get vista, kinda a waste to have 32 bit XP. I bought the external drive so i could transfer all my stuff to my new drive. Its been 6 years since ive built a new system, so it was way overdue. Let me kno what u guys think!

Kind of a redundant post since you've already bought it... what exactly are you asking for? Reassurance?

The only major problem with your build was the hard drive: Both of the hard drives Everett1 would've probably outperformed that Seagate drive while providing 140GB more storage. So from a price to performance standpoint or bang for the buck value standpoint, that $80 Seagate 500GB drive was a poor buy.

Also, now that I think about it, I think those drives might not work with regular PCs. The SV class of Seagate drives are usually for DVRs, NAS, and any other non-PC devices that requires a hard drive.

ill probably purchase a 2nd drive in the future. I can always just ghost image it to a new drive. Thx for the heads up.

Looks like a solid build. Two things I would've done differently:
1. Gone with a 285 over the 280
2. Kept Windows XP because W7 is to be released soon. No point in going with Vista at this point.

Other than that, good build and enjoy!

ill probably get windows 7 after it comes out.

Me too. What I meant was, I probably wouldn't have spent the money on Vista now, considering that Windows 7 should be released in less than a year.

Yah, only thing I would have changed was the RAM and HDD.

$130 - G.SKILL 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3-1600 F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ 9-9-9-24 1.5V – 1.6V
$80 - WD Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200RPM 32MB Cache SATA300

The WD is noticeably faster than the Seagate, and the RAM is simply $24 cheaper for negligible performance difference.

No aftermarket cooler? No OC'ing? I wouldn't added one and pushed the CPU to 3.6Ghz or around there.

ill get the cooler at another point in time, i dont plan on o/cing at the moment maybe later. What aftermarket cooler would u guys recommend as theres lots out there?

Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme (TRUE120), Noctua NH-U12P SE1366, or Cooler Master V8.

ive always heard good things about thermalright products, hows the coolermaster v8 compare? Better yet which is the best performing, easiest to install cooler?

All are comparable, hence the rec for all 3.

i notice coolermaster has a "v10" model which supposedly outperforms the v8 model, although its HUGE! it states its a direct fit for a lga 1366 socket. The zalman CNPS9900 LED looks cool, but whatever is clever.

Check out reviews for each and decide which one you like. Frostytech has a shitload of reviews on HSFs.

From the last review I read, V10 performs as well as the TRUE but...... at a fucking ridiculous cost.

ya i saw the cost.... no thanks. the v8 performs quite well i noticed which is about half the cost.

no pics at the moment, been busy as hell, had a few hitches after i got it put together, but got it sorted out. I need to add some more fans to the case. and do some cable management an shit. It already has a front, side and rear 120mm fan, but im gonna add 2 more 120mm fans to it.

I would suggest getting Xigmatek if you want LED fans or Thermaltake Turbo for non LED case fans and NZXT fan controller.

Heh, even OC'd, I only have 1x 120mm intake and 1x 120mm exhaust, and my temps are fine (quiet yate loons). ;)

i bought the thermalright 120 with a medium speed panaflo, with the support brackets.

Medium speed fans = Semi-truck... at least you're not using a high speed space shuttle fan :X

well i got the unit instaleld, its not too loud at all. I overclocked it to 3.4ghz with the FSB at 170x20, i got 18300 in 3dmark 06, going to 3.6 only netted about 300 more points. at load it only gets up around 40C at 3.4ghz, im running at stock voltage right now.

i tried tinkering with it at 4 ghz, but had to increase the VTT and Vcore to 1.30, i can probably tweak it further, but the gain from 3.8 -> 4 would probably be negigable anyway.
